Changing image on Hemmingway Rewritten theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have looked, and looked but I cannot find a way to change the main image on my webpage. I’m using Hemmingway Rewritten, and I’ve read about the features and they say that I should be able to change out the image (old barn with yellow looking grass and trees with no leaves) on the front page, but I can’t work out what that image is called, or find the “Editor” to change the “featured image” part of the site.
    When I look at “screen options” I don’t see the option to check “featured image”, but this theme is supposed to have that option.
    I am very frustrated with this.
    Hoping someone can help.
    Thanks…Mike

    Hi Gordy65,

    From the Dashboard go to -> Appearance -> Customize. A blue sidebar with design options will open on the very right of your screen and you can change the image by selecting Header.

    Hi rachelsquirrel,
    Thanks so much for that. I have now successfully changed that image.
    Next roadblock I’ve encountered is that I’d like to move the big black box with the site title in it. It’s right in the middle and it covers a good portion of the interesting part of my image. Do you know if I need to upgrade to some kind of other paid type of customisation to get control over positioning of that?

    Go to Dashboard -> Appearance -> Header. On the Custom Header page scroll down to Header Text and uncheck the box next to Show header text with your image. Then Save Changes.

    Thanks again!, however under “Dashboard > Appearance > ….” there’s no “Header” item.
    The items that are there are:
    Customize
    Widgets
    Menus
    Background
    Custom Design
    Mobile

    Hmm, that’s very strange because I have that option in my Dashboard for the Hemmingway Rewritten theme. I’m not sure why it’s absent from yours.

    The other option is to purchase the Custom Design upgrade for $30 per blog per year which will allow you to add some CSS to hide that text.

    This works for me:

    .site-branding-wrapper {
                display:none;
      }

    You can test this out first by going to Dashboard -> Appearance -> Customize and then choosing CSS. You will be able to preview the change but not save it without the custom design upgrade.

    However, it might be worth waiting to see whether someone else knows why the Header option is absent from your list. Perhaps you could also try a different browser or try clearing the cache from the browser you’re currently using.

    Thanks for that.
    Yes it seems odd that I wouldn’t have that option in my dashboard.
    I will try a different browser, clearing the cache and also contacting WordPress, if I can find some kind of email address for them.
