Changing links in different areas
-
Hello again. I’m wondering how to change my regular links and visited links to be black and underlined everywhere but the menu. The background of the menu is black so I can’t change them all. Or, can I just change the menu links to stay white and underlined? I like them all to get bold and red when hovered over, but the black/white thing is killing me.
Also, how can I make the background of only certain links appear lime green? I did it for the “Older Posts,” but that was the only individual one I could figure out.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, to change only the links within post and page content, we can target those by using a more specific selector and limit the change to only the links within .entry-content with the following:
.entry-content a, .entry-content a:visited { color: #000000; text-decoration: underline; } .entry-content a:hover { color: red; font-weight: bold; }To make the background of only certain links lime green is going to require editing all the posts and/or pages where you have a link you want the background to be lime green as you have done for the older posts. It can be done by adding a style attribute to the link code declaring the background color like this (I just grabbed the first link off of your main page to use as an example).
<a href="http://nonsenseshenanigans.com/about/this-blog/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #000000; background: lime;">Nonsense & Shenanigans</span></a>Note where I added background: lime; to the above span tag within your link code. You would edit the link code from within the Text tab in the page or post editor.

For the first one: awesome, that worked, thank you so much.
For the second one: I don’t want to change the background of texts in pages or posts, I want to change it like on the “follow via email” and “[number] comments” and stuff like that, to give the links a more button-esque look.
And one more thing — is there a way to make the active links in the menu (for example, if I’m on the page “About”) to have an underline AND overline? I tried to just change all the “active” links to do that but it didn’t work.
Sorry for so many questions, thanks so much for your help!

Oh, sorry one last thing: is there a way to move the date posted, author, and number of comments to the bottom of the post on my posts page, instead of on the top right under the title?
-
Glad that worked, and for the comments link within posts, add the following CSS. I’ve included padding, border radius and border declarations too, so it is styled more like a button. You can edit the colors and such to make things match what you have done in the sidebar.
I see you have styled the link in the follow blog widget. Nice job!
On the menu, let’s try the following which gets rid of the underline and replaces it with a bottom border and then adds a top border on the current page item.
.current-menu-item a { border-bottom: 1px solid #fff; border-top: 1px solid #fff; } .main-navigation a { border-bottom: 1px solid #fff; text-decoration: none; } .main-navigation li { padding-right: 2em; }Also, you might consider going away from the bold hover on the menu items as it causes the menu and site content to jump around when it is hovered, and that might be a little disconcerting for visitors.

I tried what you said and it worked but then I noticed that when I was on an active link, it messed up my whole menu. So I just changed my mind, un-underlined the menu links, and added underline and bold to the active link.
Now I can’t figure out how to get rid of the bold feature from hovering over menu links, and adding a change of color feature.
Haha I’m sorry I’m bugging you so much, thanks for all your help!

Oh wait I forgot. Is there a way to do the same as above for the “posted on” “posted by” and “leave a comment” sections?
-
To add a lime background color to the comment, posted by and posted on links, add the following.
.entry-meta .comments-link, .entry-meta .date, .entry-meta .author { background: lime; } -
Yes perfect! Haha okay, all done now. I tweaked a lot of stuff, pretty pleased. Thanks so much, again.

I want to link sections of my post to the sites where I sourced the info. I can’t seem to figure out how this is done. My site is ebonytowerblackwomenacademics.wordpress.com
I also need to know how I can link my site to another wordpress site. -
to do that you simply have to highlight the text you want to link, then click the link button in the toolbar menu while you are composing your post. If you don’t know which one it is, just hover over each icon until it says “link”.
What do you mean by link your site to another wordpress site? Like you want people to be redirected to, for example, black.wordpress.com when they originally try to visit, for example, green.wordpress.com?
-
Oh, I forgot — after you click the link icon, you have to input the url of the site you want to link to. That part’s kind of important. Haha

Thanks tempest…and sacred, got it done. I just didn’t know how to add references, and I can do that now. I also was confused about the differences between tags and categories, and pages -but I am ok for now!! I think I have to write the blogs and then categorize them, right? Thanks so much
