changing margins in eighties theme

Is there any way to change the post margins in themes without custom CSS? I see for example http://camerajunky.wordpress.com/ uses much less restrictive margins… thanks!

Changing the page content width is possible with custom CSS, which is what this site you pointed out has done.
Just let me know if you need further help.

thanks for the quick reply — another problem with this theme is that when I add a caption, the image size changes — it seems that by default the images are scaled to match the margins, but when the caption is added they are rescaled and go past the right margin. I actually prefer this larger image size, but the unpredictability makes it annoying since caption-less images are resized differently.
In any case, I suppose that fixing the CSS and the associated image sizing isn’t possible without upgrading to the paid account…

Thanks for the report. I just tested adding a couple of images to my Intergalactic test site. One image I added with a caption, and the other without – but the image is being displayed on the single post at the same width in either case, whether or not the image has a caption.
It would be very helpful if you could point me to two posts on your site, one with a captioned image, and one with the same image uncaptioned, so I can compare the two directly. They can be draft posts if you prefer, and I’ll still be able to see them. Thanks for your help!

Oops, my apologies, I was testing Intergalactic instead of Eighties. ;-) Stand by for more tests.

I see the issue in Eighties with the different-sized images for captioned and non-captioned. I’m going to report this to our developers so they can have a look as I’m not sure this was intentional. We’ll keep you posted here!

Any further information on this? I am using the Twenty Fourteen theme and I cannot seem to find the margins in CSS to edit them.

Hi adrianstouffer, would you mind starting a new forum thread with your question? Each theme is designed differently, and this particular thread is about the Eighties theme.
Since you’re trying to customize the Twenty Fourteen theme, starting a new thread in the CSS Customization forum will help the staff and volunteers who are most familiar with CSS give you a hand with the CSS that’s specific to that theme. :)

Howdy all! Just a note to say the captioned images in Eighties should be fixed. :)
Cheers,
Caroline
