Changing my blog address to an existing but inactive wordpress blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I have asked this earlier but I wanted to see if I can contact a staff member to see if they might be able to help me with a favour –

I want to change my blog account/address from justkeepthechange.wordpress.com to keepthechange.wordpress.com

keepthechange.wordpress.com is an existing page, but I see that the current user isn’t active, as they still have the original default wordpress comment on their home page.

I tried to contact the existing blogger but have not heard back from them. I was wondering if there was any way I can try to apply to transfer this page over. I know that this isn’t common practice to transfer a blog over but I’m hoping that there is an alternative process I might be able to follow to get this done.

Appreciate any help you can provide!

    Cheers,

    Joshua

There is no alternative process. Unless the current blog owner wants to transfer the blog to you there is nothing that can be done.

    @Joshua
Please do not create duplicate threads. I have answered you in the other thread. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/changing-my-blog-location-to-an-existing-but-inactive-user?replies=4There is no alternate process.

There is no requirement that we must blog in a blog we register. That blog remains ours unless or until we transfer it to another username or we delete it. If your attempts to reach the other blogger have failed then the issue is settled. WordPress.com staff will not contact the blogger one your behalf. They will not take it away from it’s owner and transfer it to you.

I’m sorry but if you cannot make arrangements with the other blogger then you will have to register a different WordPress.com subdomain name.

However you can purchase a domain and domain mapping and in that case it will not matter what the WordPress.com root blog URL is.

Gotcha – and sorry about the duplicate thread.

With domain mapping, does that mean I will only have to pay the registration costs for my new URL?

For example, if I purchase a domain name from GoDaddy for 10-15 bucks, can I ‘map the domain’ and still use WordPress as a host?

    Thanks again,

    Joshua

You purchase an annually renewable domain name and domain mapping. The result is that the root blog URLs from the WordPress.com blog are seamlessly redirected to the domain name URLs. No URLs are broken. Your visitors experience a seamless change to the new URLs when they click the old ones. On the dashboard or Admin side of your blog you still see root blog WordPress.com URLs but no one else sees them. Please see here for a better description and instructions.
