Changing my current domain mapping
-
Hello! I currently have machineroomstudio.com set as my primary domain, with hrbassman.com as the secondary. Both domains currently point to a splash page I had used to maintain both websites.
However, as I’m combining them into a single site now, I would like to be able to set both domains (machineroomstudio.com & hrbassman.com) to direct users to the ‘welcome’ page for machineroomstudio.com only. I also want to remove the current “portal” page. How can I do this without messing anything up? Thank you in advance for your reply.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. Yes. I’d like for both domains to bring the user to the home page of machineroomstudio.com. The url for the page is https://machineroomstudio.com/portal-page/home/
Going to this url, you’ll see the home page which reads “Welcome To The Machine” and features a large studio logo in the middle.
When a user visits machineroomstudio.com, the land on an orange “landing” page, with two options to click through to one site or the other. Since only one website will exist (machineroomstudio.com) I’d like for the domain to point to the url listed above.
I hope that helps. Thank you!

OK. Under My Site > Customize, click on Static Front Page. Go ahead and choose that page.
You might also want to make this page a “top level page” under its settings, but that’s up to you.

I followed your instructions, but I’m afraid I messed something up. Now, instead of the layout of the page I wanted at the front, the current front page took on the attributes of what was formally the portal or “landing” page. I was hoping to have it be as it was before.
If it helps, here is a link to a screenshot of how the page had looked before I made the above changes; I’d like it to look that way again, if it’s possible. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ah, I thought you wanted that page to be the front page.
Here’s what to do though: decide what page you do want to show up when people visit the site. Then make that page the front page.

Ahhhhh okay. I think I understand.
You’ve picked a theme that’s designed to show the front page of the site in a certain way. So when you select a different front page, that page adopts that layout.
Pique is meant to be a “single page” theme so its front page will always try to do that.
I think, though, if you don’t mind using the same header image on every page, Baskerville has a very similar look on static pages:
https://baskerville2demo.wordpress.com/no-sidebar-template/Do you want to try that or another theme with a similar look and feel (one that doesn’t feature that kind of front page?)

Ah, well that explains it then. I was hoping not to have to make too many changes; but I may have to. OK. I’ll take a look at the theme you suggested, along with any others that are not one-page styles and see. Or maybe I should keep the theme I have and redesign it into a single page format. Too many choices. Alright. Thanks again – I really appreciate your patience and help!
