changing my domain

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m considering changing my domain to just a ‘.com’ website, but do not have money to pay the full price for a premium membership. Is there any way I could buy the domain and pay the annual fee without paying a wordpress membership fee?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @nicolecier,

In order to buy a domain through WordPress.com, you have to at least purchase the Personal plan (do this under My Site > Plans, and it will give you a single-use token to register a domain name).

You can also register a domain name with any other domain name provider, and set it to forward to your blog; however, the visitors will see the whotfisnac.wordpress.com address in their browser bar once they are forwarded. This would mean you could just put your paid domain name out to your audience (for example, on a business card), but that’s about all it would get you.

    I hope that makes sense!

    Hi nicolecier,

but do not have money to pay the full price for a premium membership.

Custom domains are a feature of all paid plans — Personal, Premium and Business. Choose the Personal plan from this page before adding the domain you would like to buy:

    https://wordpress.com/plans/

Each paid plan includes a domain credit, which can be used to register a new domain.

Forwarding is an option but it’s not something would recommend as the domain won’t be searchable.

Come back to me if you need any more information.
