changing my domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I have purchased http://www.stashphotodesign.com and have decided I want to make it either http://www.stashphotoblog.com or http://www.stashphotographyblog.com. My questions is if I do purchase one of the two other names, how do I go about changing my URL and being a photography company and google search results being VERY important, how will this affect our rankings/searchability? Also is there a way to keep my first domain so that if anyone were to type it in, it would be redirected to the new URL address?

    Hi there,

In order to purchase the domain, you will just need to log in to your account’s Dashboard and then navigate to Store >> Domains, and then type in the domain in the field at the top of the page and click the blue button. Put through the purchase and the domain will be added to your account.

By default, your other domain will still resolve to your blog, and you can select which domain is the primary one (which domain stays in the address bar when you type in any of the addresses) on the same page by selecting the radio button next to the correct domain and pressing “Update Primary Domain” at the bottom of the page.

In regards to your question about SEO, since it is a new domain, there will be some delay while the various search engines find this new domain, however since it has established content and presence, it should move much more quickly then someone who is just starting out. Please be aware however that any domain change CAN result in up to several weeks before search engines have fully updated and qualified your site. Again, it shouldn’t be that long, but I’d hate for you to not plan for the worst!
