changing my site

    Hello, I want to change to a paid plan, am I right that my URL won’t change and I won’t lose any followers and I don’t need to let them know?
    I haven’t used it for a long time and would like to change the content and move things about.
    Do I make the changes while the site is live or is it best to temporarily close it till I’ve made all the changes I want to? Specially as I’m not very adept at using WordPress. Thanks for your help, Diane

    You don’t need to worry :) Your site will be the same after upgrading to the pro plan. You can opt to get a custom url if you want as a domain comes free for the first year with the paid plan. Your current url will redirect anyone to your domain.

    Do I make the changes while the site is live or is it best to temporarily close it till I’ve made all the changes I want to?

    That is up to you. If you are making small changes, you don’t need to temporarily close it. I would temporaily close if only I was doing a major change that would disrupt the user.

    Thank you for answering so quickly.

    You have helped me a lot, I think maybe I’ll do the changes a bit at a time and leave it live – there have been a lot of changes during my absence so I’ll keep the option to close for when I get in a mess!

    Yeah, a lot has changed now. There is full site editing support now and everything is a block now :). You may want to create a free blog and get familiar with it first. I’ll put a link below to a guide for the new editor :)

    Thanks for the link I’ll definitely need to go through it because it’s all so different and looks quite tricky.

    Do you mind me asking – when I change to a paid plan does everything on my current site move into it and then I edit and change things around – if you see what I mean?

    Nothing moves, because it will still be exactly the same site. When you upgrade, the additional features in your plan are enabled, but nothing changes until you actually change it from the dashboard.

    Your free WordPress.com address will still work, even if you add a custom domain, and your followers might not even notice that anything has changed, unless you go crazy with plugins that add a bunch of new features on the front end :)
