Changing my Site Address!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I just changed my Site Address as I was creating a new one & wanted it to have the same address.
    however, I ended up not being able to use it in neither, it says reserved when I try to change it but the site link says authors have deleted this site ( which means me ) ‘cuz I just changed it an hour ago & it’d be impossible to be used & deleted by someone else so soon.
    I really really really wanna get it back, Is there anyway I can do that?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there @partiallysufferer,

    I checked your URL http://partiallysufferer.wordpress.com and it shows as coming up for me. Were you referring to a different URL? If so please let us know what URL you were trying to create or change to so we can help take a better look at this with you :)

    In case you want to take a second stab at it, a site address can be done using the steps found at this support document:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

    Otherwise be very careful about deleting a site – Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address. If you did delete it then it might not be able to be recovered :( More on that can be found here.

    Please let us know the URL in question, hopefully we can still get this going for you! :)

    @partiallysufferer,

    Hi. You might have inadvertently chosen to delete discard the previous address, and to delete the site. See step #7. in the Instructions for Changing Your Site Address section of the Change a Site Address support page, which says:

    7. The final option on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. Note: if you do not select this option, you will see your original address under My Sites.

    When a site is deleted, its address becomes unavailable for the next two years. The Recycling Blog Addresses somewhat explains the WordPress.com policy regarding deleted sites, though in another context (abandoned sites). One sentence from that support page relevant here is the following:

    Sites already deleted by their authors two or more years ago may become available again, if they present no username or other technical conflicts.

    Correction:
    “You might have inadvertently chosen to discard the previous address, and to delete the site.”
