Changing my site address (URL) with domain purchase

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am currently writing an academic blog (https://thenuclearnightmare.wordpress.com/) but I want to change the blog name – I have ALREADY changed the name and I read all the conditions that I wouldn’t be able to change my site address etc. At the time I made it I thought it was right!

However I have recently decided that perhaps the name is inappropriate for an academic audience and might imply incorrect agendas about what I am writing.

SO! I was just wondering if there was anyway I can change the site address (url)?
I have already changed the blog name (https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/) so I guess I can’t change it now seeing as I was warned in the first name

BUT – is it possible for me to buy a domain, e.g. buy the domain thenuclearnotebook.com, will change my primary url/site address so it is no longer attached to thenuclearnightmare? So my question is – if I purchase a domain name so by going into settings, add a custom site, entering thenuclearnotebook, and purchasing it for £15 a year – will it change my url and blog address?

Any advice would be amazing and please do let me know if I can no longer change the name because I already set the blog address?

    Thank you in advance!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

The .wordpress.com address can’t be removed, it needs to exist to have a site on WordPress.com, but after registering/mapping a custom domain you can use this custom domain as your primary address.

There is more informations about it at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain

    Best Regards,
