Changing nameserver not working
-
Hi,
I followed the procedure for mapping lisemeijer.wordpress.com to my wife’s domain at lisemejier.dk:
I purchased the upgrade, changed the nameservers and waited.
When it didn’t work I contacted the hosting company, who told me I needed to use the IP adresses.
This didn’t work either.
According to the provider I need the IP adress for the webserver that the wordpress blog is hosted at and not the nameserver. But that would be updating the A or CNAME record, which is not supported for main domains. This can only be done for subdomains, right?
I don’t think the Site is an Internationalized site, even thoough Denmark has special characters in its alphabet.
I did a lot of searching and reading, and keep getting the same replies from the provider. So I hope you can help :)
Right now I don’t have any changes made on the site DNS, only the mapping from wordpress making lisemeijer.wordpress.com the primary domain.
Thanks
RuneThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need a zone record added to your WordPress.COM site for starters. You should contact support when they open the contact form back up (they are a bit overloaded) http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
I will flag this for the staff as they check the forum on a regular basis. I was also not able to find your domain when I did a whois search, is the spelling correct?
-
I have manually added a zone record for your domain.
You should now be able to map it here following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
-
I have now added the NS records to the hosting site.
Is it correct that if I want lisemeijer.dk to show the content of lisemeijer.wordpress.com that the worpress site should be the primary domain?I suppose it will take some time for the change effect…
Thanks so much for the quick replies!!

You want lisemeijer.dk to be the Primary Domain – just like the instructions.
It can take 24 to 72 hours for the changes to migrate across the internet. Changes typically start sooner, you will probably have problems with local caching issues at your ISP and the routers between you and the old URL, so you will probably be the last to see the name change.
You can watch the progress of the name change here.

Hello again,
Now lisemeijer.wordpress.com seems to be unavailable. Browser cannot find the page. It was the same last time I made lisemeijer.com the primary domain. That caused me to consider whether it was correct to have traffic redirected to lisemeijer.com and not the other way around…
I thought this was going to be easy :) -
whatsmydns.net does show the NS updated to the WordPress nameservers.
Can anyone confirm if they get a proper redirect on lisemeijer.dk?
For me it gives a browser error:“Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”
(not showing in Chrome either)

When i point WP DNS in the Hosting company, it keeps saying REFUSED RESEARCH. i really don’t know wha’t to do. Anyone can help me? thanks a lot!
-
lisemeijer, the nameservers don’t appear to be set correctly. Of course, it’s still in the 72 hour period, but you might want to check with your registrar too.
cuiabanidade1, we might need to add a zone record, but we’ll need to know what your domain name is to do that.
-
macmanx, my registrar says I cannot use the WordPress Nameservers; according to them there is nothing responding.
They ask me for the hosts CNAME…http://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/lisemeijer.dk shows wordpress’ nameservers for all countries except Berlin, germany.
Also inside the admin site for lisemeijer.dk the nameservers are set correctly… -
We have quite a few .dk domains mapped here without issue, and your zone record is set correctly.
Do you have anything odd set with your domain on their end? Are you possibly forwarding it elsewhere?
-
As far as I’m aware there’s nothing odd, and there are no forwards.
Here’s a snap of the DNS record:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2251039/lisemeijerdk%20DNS%20page.JPGPreviously I maintained lisemeijer.dk by uploading files by ftp from iWeb.
The files are still there. The hosting comp sayd it would be no problem as a nameserver change would supercede that.
Here’s a snap of what the fileserver looks like now:

They probably aren’t allowing you to change the nameservers as you’ll have to setup the MX records and such over here after switching.
Do you see any sort of error from them when you change it?
To clarify, changing the nameservers is the only way that works with our mapping system. You can’t use any other method.
-
No I do not get any error when changing it.
What is the alternative for me?
Could I create a sub-domain, map that and somehow let the subdomain also redirect to the main page?
-
Thanks everyone for the input.
Aparently the hosting site where I registered my domain cannot change the Nameserver, since domain registration is handled centrally for all DK at DK-Hostmaster.dk.
I found out the NS1.WORDPRESS.COM nameserver is approved there and I need to send a request to DK-Hostmaster to have it changed.
Guess I can ditch my hosting company after that…I’ll close this thread now :)
