Changing Nameservers
-
Under DOMAINS I cannot find where my nameservers are in order to change them. I have followed your support document, but there’s no nameservers option under the DOMAIN tab.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I do not see a custom domain under your account. What is the name of the domain? You’ll need to be logged in under the account associated with the upgrade in order to change its nameservers.
Let me know if you have any any questions.
Thanks!

Hi Darnell,
I think I fixed the issue. I will know for sure by tomorrow. But you’re correct, I was trying to apply a lot of functionality to a .wordpress.com site in which you’re not allowed to. I have since purchased a different domain and got it hosted. I’m hoping that solves all my problems. Thank you for the reply. -
Glad that you got it sorted out.
If you have any questions regarding your custom domain let me know!
Thanks!

Hey Darnell,
So I checked and the issue is not solved. Even though I got the custom domain and hosting and changed the nameservers. It’s still not allowing me to upload my own theme. (That’s all I’ve wanted to do since the beginning.) The “add new” or “upload” button in the “theme” section is not there. And I’m slowly losing my mind because of it.Any help would be awesome.

Ah, It sounds like you are trying to install a third party theme for a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog. Third party themes can not be uploaded to a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. They are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.
The good news is that WordPress.COM has hundreds of available themes that you can activate (many for free), and they are found under Appearance > Themes
You can find out more about them here:http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
Let me know if you have any other problems or questions.
Cheers,

Okay… So when I bought my domain and hosting it was on the wrong wordpress? I’ve seen that .com vs .org article a zillion times but wasn’t sure how it pertained to me.
So… To move forward, if I still want this third party theme, what can I do? Do I cancel my order for the domain and buy it through wordpress.org? OR am I too far down the rabbit hole?
I know they have other themes but I found one that fits what I need PERFECTLY and once I have all this other nonsense figured out, it will be a breeze to build this site with this theme.
Thanks for your quick reply.

No, you’re down the rabbit hole, but not too far =)
So that we are on the same page, do not cancel your domain name – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can update the nameservers to point the domain over to your site host.
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/
After 60 days you can transfer the domain over to your site host so that both your site and domain are in the same place:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
Just wanted to give you a heads up!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

I already have the nameservers pointed to my other hosting and still the functionality of the third party theme are not there. Does this mean I need to wait 60 days?
Because I have the other hosting shouldn’t that mean that my blog acts like a WordPress.org blog, not a .com blog? It’s had different nameservers for almost 3 days now. And still no upload theme option.
-
I also should mention that I also have WordPress installed on that hosting and everything is setup like it should be. The only “tie” I have to WordPress.com now is that I originally signed up for a blog there and bought my own domain name through them.
But since I’ve changed everything over, shouldn’t it act like a WordPress.org site now and allow me to upload the theme?

Hey there,
So, you should be good to go and it’s now a matter of figuring out how to upload the theme. Are you hosting your site on Hostgator?
I don’t have access to your WordPress.org backend, but if you are hosting your site with HostGator, they provide instructions on how to install your WordPress theme here:
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

I know. That’s the irritating part about this whole thing is I’ve done everything you should do and it’s still not working.
It is through hostgator. I’ll call them again and see what I’m doing wrong. But you see why this has been so maddening. I feel like I did it all correctly and WordPress.com is still not allowing me to do anything they talk about on WordPress.org.
-
I understand your frustration.
To clarify, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different in many ways:
There is a lot that WordPress.com won’t allow you to do that a self-hosted WordPress.org site allows – installing themes is one of them.
The installation of your third party theme is a WordPress.org issue that Hostgator should be able to assist you with. We are a WordPress.com support forum – since we do not have access to your self-hosted blog, there is not much we can do.
Hopefully, Hostgator will be able to assist you once you contact them. Of course, if there is anything we can do on our end, we’d be happy to.
Let us know, thanks!

Thank you so much for your time and all of your responses. It’s been so nice to have a sounding board I really appreciate it. I will take it up with host gator now. have a good day

Sorry Darnell,
I’m sure you were happy to get rid of me lol. I talked to hostgator and I had the initial person I talk to look over everything I did, then I had their supervisor look it over to double check and they said everything is done one the hostgator side, that it looks like a wordpress.com issue. I honestly don’t mind giving you my wordpress login. I have no content or details in there that I wouldn’t share. The site is brand new, so there’s no content to transfer over and I’ve done everything else but for some reason wordpress.com is holding my site hostage.
Is there anyone who can look further into my case. This has been a two week long process, meanwhile, my client is not happy.
Thank you
Brooke -
Now I can’t even login to the backend!!!! Darnell please tell me you’re still there lol. I don’t know what to do. If you go to the URL it says it’s parked, then when I try to login to the backend. NOTHING doesn’t recognize me or my username???
I paid for that URL how am I supposed to build the site when it doesn’t recognize me????
-
Hey there Brooke,
So, your goal is to install a third party theme onto your WordPress.org site, right? If Hostgator thinks that is an issue on our end, then they are totally mistaken. Did they say anything in detail as to why it is a WordPress.com issue? What is the name of the theme and where did you purchase it? Trust me, you have a self-hosted site with Hostgator and you are trying to install a third party theme into your WordPress.org site. The reason it’s called third party is because it is associated with a party other than WordPress.com and therefore, there’s nothing we can do – I’m confused that they would tell you it’s an issue on our side.
If you tell me where you purchased your theme, maybe I can find more installation instructions, but you should be able to follow the instructions from Hostgator that I provided earlier to install your theme with them:
In regards to having trouble logging in, are you sure you are logging into the backend of your WordPress.ORG site and not your WordPress.COM site? If so, have you tried to change the password?
The fact that the site is saying that the domain is parked at MOJO proves that the domain’s nameservers are pointed over to your WordPress.org host successfully. The only thing that you have with WordPress.com at the moment is the domain, and whatever the issue is has nothing to do with the domain.
Please feel free to send them what I am saying – I’d be interested in hearing their response. They SHOULD be able to assist you with installing your theme since you are hosting with them.
Let me know what they say. Thanks!

Thank you for getting back to me. I’m past hostgator saying it’s a wordpress “thing”. Currently I’m not able to login under wordpress.org or wordpress.com. Both don’t recognize my login or username when I try to do lost password on BOTH .com and .org.
So that is for sure a wordpress “thing”. Why does wordpress hate me so!!!! I think that maybe all the problems happening today and yesterday and this week may have to deal with the fact that I can’t even login now?
Thanks again so much for your help and dedication to my issue. I cannot tell you how much it means to me.
