Changing Nameservers

  • Well, at least I can help you get into your WordPress.com site =)

Since you still have access to the email connected to the account, you can enter that email address in the password recovery tool. Please check your spam folder for the recovery email if you don’t receive it in your inbox immediately:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Let me know if you have any trouble with that.

    Cheers,

    Happy Friday Darnell,
With a new day, comes new craziness.

    1. I can login to the wordpress.org support to talk to you here – CHECK
    2. I can login to the site management area of wordpress.com to see my domain etc. – CHECK
    3. (Most importantly) I CANNOT login to my dashboard through ajsangelsblog.com/wp-admin. When I say I “lost my password” it says it doesn’t recognize my username or email.

    Any idea?

  • Is the e-mail you use for WordPress.com and WordPress.org the same?

Here are a few links regarding your WordPress.org login trouble:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble

If you remember the e-mail you used when creating your WordPress.org site, you should be able to reset your password with the instructions in the links above and regain access. Again, I’m surprised Hostgator isn’t able to assist you with this.

Let me know if the instructions help.

    Thanks!

This is my last effort. I’m sure you’re beyond irritated with me but I CANNOT login through ajsangelsblog.com/wp-admin and it doesn’t recognize my username or website.

I can login to wordpress.com to see my domain but I can’t actually login to the dashboard to work on it.

Everything is setup with hostgator this is a wordpress issue.

If this can’t get resolved, I don’t think I’m going to use wordpress again. This is infuriating and even more so that there’s no number I can call to talk to someone.

You’ve been a great help, but it would be nice to talk this madness through to someone who can go in and look at my account and help me.

Any help you can give would be great.
    Brooke

  • Hey Brooke,

I’m not irritated at all! Just want to help you in gaining access to your account.

Everything is setup with hostgator this is a wordpress issue.

See, this is where the hangup is. I agree that it is a WordPress issue. However, the crucial question here is this is a WordPress.com issue or a WordPress.org issue. If it is a WordPress.com issue, it is something that I can handle on my end. If it is a self-hosted WordPress.org issue, the host of the installed WordPress site should be able to handle it. ajsangelsblog.com is a WordPress.org site. If you check the nameservers here at WHOis, it shows that Hostgator is the host of the site.

I can login to wordpress.com to see my domain but I can’t actually login to the dashboard to work on it.

You do not log into WordPress.com account to access your site. It is not hosted with us. At this point, the only reason you’ll need to log into WordPress.com is for domain related issues (such as renewing your domain or transferring your domain over to Hostgator).

The reason I cannot help you is because I don’t have access to your credentials over at Hostgator. I only have access to your WordPress.com hosted information. Your domain is hosted with us here at WordPress.com. So, if you were having problems with your domain ajsangelsblog.com, I’d be able to help you. But the login issues you are having is a site issue not a domain issue. Your site is hosted Hostgator.

Based off a few things you mentioned, I think the big issue here is that I believe you are still a bit confused on the functions of WordPress.com vs WordPress.org.

So, http://ajsangelsblogblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin will lead you to you (unused) WordPress.com blog. If you have problems with that blog if you ever decide to use it or the domain ajsangelsblog.com, let me and WordPress.com know. You said you have access to that dashboard, so we’re good to go there.
But, https://ajsangelsblog.com/wp-admin leads to your WordPress.org site hosted at Hostgator and that is the one you are having issues logging into.

I asked previously if you used the same e-mail address and password to access both of the above blogs. That may be a cause of the mixup if you are using two different e-mail/usernames and passwords.

Hopefully this makes sense, I don’t know if I’m articulating it clearly enough. I totally understand you’re frustrated, but I don’t want you to have the impression that the issue stems from an oversight at WordPress.com. I don’t know if you believe me or not in this, but if I could help you with this issue directly, I most certainly would. =(

If you want me to e-mail you regarding this issue so I can get your login credentials, I’d be happy to see if I can log in on my end with what you have. There’s a link right under the login that gives you the option to reset your password if you forgot it. All you have to do is remember the e-mail or username.

I am committed to assisting you until we get this sorted. I don’t want you to quit blogging because of a login issue. I’m certain you have a lot to share to the world through your writing and it will be a shame if something like this prevents you from doing so.

Let me know if you’d like me to email you or if I can further assist in any other way.

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for writing back. You’re like a wizard lol. Every time I think I’m about to quit and give up, you charm me back into thinking it’s not hopeless.

I totally understand what you’re saying. The issue I’m having now is a wordpress.org issue, which you can’t help me with because you’re wordpress.COM. GOT IT lol. Finally!

I just spent about 2 hours in .ORG forums and came up with nothing helpful. So the search continues. I guess this is where I leave you. Thank you for your help. You’ve been awesome.

  • Most importantly) I CANNOT login to my dashboard through ajsangelsblog.com/wp-admin. When I say I “lost my password” it says it doesn’t recognize my username or email.

Tell me more about what happens here. You click the link to retrieve a password. What e-mail do you put in? Or do you put in a username? Have you tried more than one e-mail?

  • Unknown's avatar

I put in (email visible only to moderators and staff) or username ajsangelsblog – I don’t know what other username or email it would be. I signed up for anything associated with this new site with that email and that username.

  • Okay, I have a solution for you. I take it you can at least login into your hostgator account still? If so, there are still several ways you can get back into your account. FTP is one of them, but the one I think you can do is through PHPmyadmin. I found a video tutorial of step by step instructions on how to get back into your account:

All you’ll need to do is log into you HostGator, find the CPanel, and follow the instructions.

Give it a shot! Hopefully it works!

    Let me know, thanks!

  • Here is how you find your cPanel and PHPmyadmin under your Hostgator account:
