Changing Neo-Sapian’s Red to Blue
-
I”m totally new to CSS – I know some CSS coding but I dont know where to find it or how to change it on a free wordpress blog, just a paid blog. I have Neo-Sapian and really love it but want to change the red horizontal ‘bar’ of color from red to blue. Thats it.
I need help trying to find how and where to find my blog’s CSS, and how to change it.. I pretty much know WHAT CSS code to change once I can find the right file/page.
any help would be great. thanks. (and please explain to me like you would an 8 yr old :) – thanks)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Appearance > Edit CSS
(after you have the paid CSS Upgrade http://support.wordpress.com/custom-css/) -
okay so basically you’re saying i have to have a paid upgrade in order to change this? figures. Thanks for the response. i guess i’m either changing my header image again or my entire blog design.
-
Yes, that’s correct.
The Vigilance theme has many customizeable options for free; you may wish to look into that.

raincoaster, thanks.. i think i tried that one and liked it except for one thing – i dont like having my tags above my post i like them below my post… but yes i will have to either go find a new theme or stick with the red. thanks to you both for the answers

You can also find some tips at http://csswiz.wordpress.com which is full of tips for people without the paid upgrade.

I searched devblogs site and can’t see anything helpful in this regard. maybe I have missed something. Here’s the link to all of the indexed posts in his blog:

No, I’m just giving the link in case the OP wants to tinker as much as possible without the CSS upgrade.

Hello Raincoaster and TimeThief – i’ve read both your comments and looked at both your links and not sure i understand… Raincoaster – how can people without the unpaid upgrade change the CSS? therefore the tips would be moot wouldnt they? Are you guys saying there is a way to tinker with the CSS without the paid upgrade? I really dont feel like paying 15 bucks a year for a blog that all i want to do with is change the colors :)
thanks

For certain types of changes, there is a trick that can be used by adding “inline CSS” to a text widget at the top of the sidebar. What can be done is limited and varies from theme to theme. The change you are wanting to make – from red to blue – cannot be made via inline CSS.
-
BTW, the site linked to your username is not a wordpress.com blog. Can we have a link to it please?
-

The change you want to make requires not only some CSS, but you also have to create a new background image for the theme, since that red band at the top is part of the entire background image. This is the current image: http://s2.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/neo-sapien-05/images/bg_body.gif . It is not just a matter of changing a color declaration in the CSS.
-
Actually what I said is not entirely true. The background image declared in the “body” section of the CSS goes from the top edge of the browser window (black) to the bottom of the red band.

hmm.. okay thanks very much for having a look and digging… so it seems the best alternative is still to try and find a new theme that has ‘most’ of what I want – I just find most of the themes are too ‘journalistic’ in look and feel and not ‘rock and roll’ enough :) (go figure – they’re blogs right?) Either that or I’ll have to change all my other social network sites to red instead of blue.
-
i saw that… actually its easy enough to do that in a basic photo program or even in powerpoint… the graphics are easy for me, the techno/coding is more challenging :) Moot point though unless i want to bite the bullet and pay for it – for more than one year (i’ve been told on another forum that the coding reverts back to original if you dont pay the subsequent year… had hoped it would stay as is and just prohibit you from more customizations)
thanks very much for the help people.appreciate it.
-
That is true, it does revert back if you do not renew. I don’t have the time at the moment, but if you will give me till tomorrow I’ll see if I can get the inline CSS trick to work with that theme. Do note though that the red text and the red top border on the navigation tabs would need the CSS upgrade.
One way I always think of the CSS upgrade is that it works out to about 4 cents per day.
-
thats very generous of you to offer help like this… i’m in no mad panic to do it – just another ‘on my list’ for the next few weeks. and yes its cheap – but my main priority for paying is for my photo website at this point.
i had a thought – i’m not familliar with Sandbox themes but they’re more customizable than any other free theme yes? Would it be possible to take most of the coding from neo-sapian and just plug it into Sandbox and then tweak it from there?
