Changing of our nonprofit name
-
Hi, when we first started our nonprofit in Jan 2021 and applied for tax exempt status with the IRS, they designated us as a private foundation instead of a public charity, which is what we wanted to be. Now we’ve decided we need to find a way to get them to change is to be a public charity, but the only way is to reapply under a different nonprofit name, so we have to start the whole process over. I’m trying to figure out how this will affect our current website. Do we have to build a brand new one, or is there a way to just give it our new domain name once we have it and change the name on our pages where it shows the old name? We will most likely change our nonprofits name to The RAM Charity. Can you give me some insights how this will work? Thanks

Hi there!
No need to start all over from scratch! Once you have your name change set, you can purchase your new domain name and make that one the primary on your existing site. Since your site is not hosted here at WordPress.com but at Bluehost, you would need to contact Bluehost for help in getting your domain name switched over:
https://www.bluehost.com/contact
Then, you would just need to update your Site Title under Settings -> General to reflect your new name:

Of course, if you use your old nonprofit name elsewhere on the site (like on posts, pages, or other content) you would need to do an audit of your site to find and update those names to use the new nonprofit name.
If you more questions, please reach out to Bluehost support or the WordPress community for guidance:
