Changing order of photo display in the Gallery

    We post photos of club activities in the gallery on one of our pages. The gallery displays from the oldest to the newest posting. We have a lot of photos and our members would prefer to see the newest postings first. I can’t find an option to reverse the order. Can this be done?

    Hey there!

    You can adjust the order in which your Gallery is displayed by changing the shortcode.

    Here are the instructions for making additions to your gallery shortcodes:

    If you feel daunted at all by the shortcode, you can also drag and drop your images into the correct order. Then, when you add new images, make sure they’re added to the beginning.

    Here’s how:

    1. Open your gallery page by clicking below:
      https://huntsvillelakesprobus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=93&action=edit
    2. Click one of your gallery images ONCE. A pencil icon will appear. Click that.
    3. You can now drag and drop the images into the order you prefer.
    4. Make sure you click Update Gallery to save your changes.

    Going forward, simply add new images and make sure you’ve dragged them to the top of the order.

    Thanks, this was helpful but I still need help. Too many photos to pull them into the order I need. I see where I would need to change the shortcode. Would I put : gallery type=”slideshow”=orderby= ?
    I would like the order to display by the date posted. Not sure what Rand or ASC means. Your help appreciated.

    Hey there!

    Regarding gallery shortcode:

    If you use orderby=”ID ASC” in your shortcode, your images will display in ascending order of their ID numbers. ID numbers are ‘assigned’ depending on the order in which you uploaded the images. Of course, the opposite is true of using DESC (descending) in your shortcode. Rand is random order.

    I am not entirely certain, by looking at your images, what order you’ve uploaded your images — from past to present in your organization’s history, or vice versa. However, one of those codes should work for you, depending upon your ID numbers.

    Really appreciate your help. I can see under the text tab the list of my photos which are posted in asc order. I inserted the following text:
    [gallery type=”slideshow” orderby=”id desc”847,848, (copied from my page) before the list of numbers and following the “slideshow” but do not see a change. What have I done wrong.

    Hello there!

    I’m going to do some testing of your shortcode. Could you confirm that you want your images to display as 1195, 1194, 1193, 1192…, rather than 847, 848, 849, 850…?

    If that’s the case, the first image would be:

    Yes Robyn thanks, in that order.

    Could you also help me with my other site. Paintedkids.ca is on WordPress as well but my site got hacked and I have had to rebuild my pages. I didn’t create it originally but have been maintaining it. I changed to theme Twenty Twelve the same as I use for this Probus site but for some reason the Gallery does not give me an option for slideshow. I tried putting in the code as you showed me above, but it makes no difference. I have search the forums but its just too complicated for me. Why would there be an option for “type” of gallery on one and not the other when running the same Theme?
    I also can’t figure out how to put back my Favicon for the Painted Kids site – the process was simpler two years ago when I first created the pages. Sorry to ask you here but I couldn’t find any way to reach a person on the help section linked to my Painted Kids WordPress site. Thanks Janice

    Regarding your gallery on http://huntsvillelakesprobus.com/, you’re currently working on the page, so I cannot get into the editor. When you’re done. I can take a look. I suspect, that if the shortcode is too challenging to maintain, you’re going to find that dragging and dropping your images into the chosen order will be the most efficient way to deal with the issue going forward. It might take a few minute to adjust initially, but will take almost no time, once you add images.
