How do I change our primary custom domain?
-
We recently purchased a $12 domain mapping upgrade and successfully mapped it to our new blog, chupichupacabra.net . Now we have decided to change the domain to chupichupacabra.com, which is another domain that we also own. What are the steps that we need to follow? Should we point the new domain to the WordPress DNS nameservers first, or should we wait for tech support to do something first?

Hi, you will want to first update the name servers to point to WordPress.com. We have a full set of directions on how to do this at:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/There’s no limit to the number of domains you can have redirecting to one blog here. You’ll be able to have both chupichupacabra.net and chupichupacabra.com redirect to the same blog.
However, only one domain can be the one that readers see when visiting your site. You can set this primary domain at Upgrades > Domains in your blog’s Dashboard.

OK, thanks for your reply. I don’t need to have both domains pointing to WordPress. I got rid of chupichupacabra.net by reassigning it to our BlueHost account and I have now assigned chupichupacabra.com to the WordPress DNS name servers. Now, what do I need to do to get my primary WordPress domain to be chupichupacabra.com instead of chupichupacabra.net?

Now you’ll need to map that domain following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
If you’d like a refund for your mapping on chupichupacabra.net please contact us via http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and file a private request if asked.
