Changing ownership of site

  • Unknown's avatar

We merged with this organization last year and took over operation of their website. The original owner/creator of the website has since left our organization but is still listed as an administrator on the blog. We are not able to remove or change that person’s credentials. Can you provide guidance as to what we can/should do at this point?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

The reason you would have trouble removing administrators is if you are not an administrator yourself or if the administrator you’re trying to remove is the owner of the account. If that is the case, the owner will need to transfer ownership of the blog over to you or another admin, which will automatically remove them as a user of the site.
You can find more information on user roles here:

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thanks, Darnell. The person who set this up is no longer with our organization (and set it up before this program merged with our organization). Is there a way to override her “owner” status (for instance, with a letter from our organization on letterhead that officially transfers ownership) or some other way to manage transfer of ownership?

Alternately, we are considering exporting the site to a new location with hosting at the same location as our other company websites. Would that solve our problem?

  • Hi there,

The only three forms of proof we accept are an email from the email address with which the blog was registered, a PayPal transaction ID, or the original activation link. What is the URL of the site you are wanting ownership over?

What I could do is contact the email on file and and ask for consent to transfer the site over to you all. If I get the okay, I can do it immediately.

Let me know if you have any other questions

    Thanks,
