Changing permalink & blog post title
-
I had to change one word in the permalink and post title –from “multi-year” to “one-year”–because of an error in a press release that was sent to me.
I expected that the few links that exist—would no longer work but they do. Are there any repercussions that I can expect from having changed the permalink? For example, I see that both post titles are indexed on Google, though both lead to the correct title. Am I supposed to use a Google removal tool for the duplicate?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, there are MAJOR repercussions from having changed the permalink. HUGE. I would absolutely change it back if you have incoming links, otherwise those go to a 404 page and that will hurt you in search engine standings.
You can change the Title, just not the permalink. That won’t hurt you.

Raincoaster, do you mean that eventually the links with the “multi-year” url, which go to the updated “one year” url now, will soon lead to a 404?
I had to change it or there’s a hassle from someone because “multi-year” was incorrect. The incoming links for the one that say “multi-year” are mainly from Facebook and bit.ly. I just deleted the Facebook post and reposted it.
I want to remove the old url from Google using the removal tool, though I’ve never done that before.if I post a link somewhere that has the “one year” in the permalink it will be good won’t it?

I just found this post about the Google removal tool on Time Thief’s site and that I have to wait for the 404.

It’s up to Google to choose whether or not to honor your request. They normally do not clear their caches for 3 to 6 months and sometimes tit takes even longer.Relying on this breaking links and requesting “404” removals is not a good move. As raincoaster said above breaking URLs is something we must all avoid doing.
I sure hope this works out well for you in the end.

This is a lesson in not putting a word in a url that one is not two hundred percent sure of!

Remain positively focused – what’s done is done and we humans learn equally form mistakes and successes. Best wishes to you. :)
