Changing Permalinks
-
Hello,
I am rather new to this and running into some trouble changing my permalinks from ‘ugly’ to ‘pretty’, descriptions as I’ve read in the forums.
The splash screen of my site shows the two articles I’ve posted and above each is a large blank space that lists a ‘category’ in the top right, and ‘read more’ in the bottom right. It would be OK if I could condense this field, or simply disable it.
When I go to WP-admin/ I do not have ‘permalinks’ listed as an option in my settings bar.
If I could find that permalinks menu I’d be set. Sorry for the Noob question. Any advice or direction is most appreciated.
Thanks!

You cannot change the configuration of permalinks on a WordPress.com blog like http://codymidlam.com/. So don’t worry about it.
We cannot help you with large blank spaces we cannot see because your blog is private.

Thank you raincoaster. Sorry for the trouble; I’ve updated and my site is no longer private (thank you).
Any help on cleaning up the Permalink via the wp.com blog would be so greatly appreciated!!!

We cannot access templates here at WordPress.com. All blogs wearing the same theme on this multiuser blogging platform are using the same underlying template. Only Staff can access those files and edit them.
Please consult the detailed theme description here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen/ There are also many threads that explain how the Oxygen theme is designed to operate.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/oxygenIn Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
Page templates can be set under the “Page Attributes” section on the page editor screen. For more information on Page Attributes:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.
Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

You’re welcome and best wishes.
P.S. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different. To avoid confusion please read this support doc http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
