Changing primary domain implications

  I am changing the primary domain for my blog, but I am keeping ownership of old domain. In fact I will keep the old domain linked to my blog. So effectively I am adding a new domain.

  However, I want to change the primary domain to this new domain.

  I don’t there are any implications as logins will work and all urls new and old will work.

  However, are you aware of any implications re google search status etc etc.

  Ie do you have any guidance for retaining or perhaps ensuring a new site map etc is issued.

  Hi Lee,

  In fact I will keep the old domain linked to my blog. So effectively I am adding a new domain.

  If you are planning to keep the existing domain pointing to the site, there won’t be any need to setup a redirect. Anyone who visits the current domain will be automatically redirect to the new domain on the same site.

  Changing domains can have a negative impact if you cancel the one search engines have already indexed. But yours will remain active in this case and over time, search engines will index the new primary domain.

  Thank you for confirming. I was slightly worried about old post short codes etc.

  I have 3 wordpress sites in my account
  one of them the company wants to be independent of me how do I move the whole site, domain and all without disruption to a wordpress platform under his name with his own login and password?
