Changing primary email contact address.
-
I need to change my email on my account. I have tried doing that but it keeps coming up that the email that I am trying to change to is being used (I can only assume by me). However I do need to remove the (email visible only to moderators and staff) as it is so often messed with that I am just going to close it completely and want to switch to (email visible only to moderators and staff). I was hoping not to have to go through deleting accounts and reopening accounts with WordPress just to change my email address on the account. Can someone help me do that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If the email address you wish to use is being used on another WordPress.com account, you will need to log into that account and change its email address to something else. An email address can only be in the system for a single account.

That is not the case. I only have one WordPress account. I don’t know how it got fouled up. I have reached the point with hotmail that I do not wish to waste the time or effort to try and maintain that email account any longer. I have tried changing to another email address then changing it to the one I want to use, that wouldn’t work either.

The gmail account is indeed being used on another WordPress.com account. You will need to gain access to it in order to change it so that it is available to use on your current account.

Hey there!
The gmail address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) was used to register a WordPress.com site in 2010. Did you own the email address at the time, and register a WordPress.com account?
Here is my suggestion to you: Log out of WordPress.com. Then, click the log in button. In the next screen, click the “Lost your password?” link. Have a password-reset link sent to your gmail address. Once you do that, you can log into WordPress.com using your gmail address.
If you want to use that gmail account to manage your sites, you will now want to log out of WordPress.com again. Then, log back in using your hotmail address. You will move your blogs from the hotmail account to the gmail account, using these instructions:
Once your sites are moved, you can use the gmail address to log into WordPress.com and manage all your sites.
That should do the trick. If you need a hand along the way, let us know. Thanks!

I’ve had that email address since 2008. I don’t understand how the other email provider address keeps popping up on things (not just here at WordPress). I decided to keep it and have everything forwarded to another email address just to keep tabs on what is being sent to it and if it is being used by someone else. I’ll give your recommendations a try and let you know if it worked.

It seems that the gmail account is tied to a WordPress website I follow and occsionally comment on, there are no blogs associated with it. I would like to remain as a commenter on that blog, but would also like to change my blog site email to the gmail account. Is there a way to do that?

Hey there!
An email address can only belong to one WordPress.com account…meaning, you can’t have two accounts with the same email address. The only way to be able to comment with your gmail account AND use it to administer your websites is to move all your sites to the WordPress.com account with the gmail address.
If you need any help trying to come up with another workaround for this issue let me know. For instance, you could change the gmail address on that 2008 account, so it no longer is connected to that account. Then, you can change your aquila6 address to gmail. Of course, this means that the 2008 account can no longer have your gmail address.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!
