Changing privacy? settings

I started setting up and selected the option of having viewers log into my site with a password. Now a mentor suggests I make my site public, but I can’t find my way back to the correct page. I’m working on MacBook Pro OS 10.13.6. Please advise. Oh, and does WordPress look different on my Mac than it does on tutorials I’m using?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you share the address of the site you’re working on and confirm that it is hosted here at WordPress.com.

    1) I confess I’ve made rather a muddle of trying to set up my WordPress blog. I want my site name (address?) to be finelines, and my new email is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    2) I prefer not to have my email displayed on the site, but like to give readers the option of commenting.

    3) Also, several years ago, when I first began to explore WordPress.com, I didn’t realize I could still use “finelines” and so I set up “finelinesisee.” Is there some way I can configure the “finelinesisee” to redirect readers to “finelines?”

  • Hi there,

Okay, so this is reference to finelinesisee.wordpress.com and finelines.home.blog?

If so, there isn’t any content or followers on the finelinesisee.wordpress.com site, so I don’t think you’ll necessarily need a redirect from that site to your new site at finelines.home.blog. Also, neither site is private currently.

Are you referring to a site not hosted with WordPress.com? What is the URL?

    Thanks,

I realize I had not yet posted anything, but I had started telling people about “finelinesisee” so it is possible some may still have the info and want to visit. However, I’m OK with not redirecting if that is better.

I’m not sure how finelines.home.blog came about. I thought it would be finelines.wordpress.com

patg.writer.wordpress also entered the picture. I didn’t know where to enter my blog site “title” i.e. finelines, or my email address. I guess that’s obvious now. I’d prefer finelines.wordpress.com

    Should I permanently delete the one(s) I don’t want?

I’m afraid the address https://finelines.wordpress.com/ is already taken.

  • It’s true finelines.wordpress.com was already taken by someone else. The finelines.home.blog address sounds nice though!

I’d hold off for a moment until everything is settled. Do you want to redirect the one to the other? If so, rather than deleting it, you’d need to add a site redirect upgrade. I recommend the redirect upgrade if the old site had significant traffic that needs to be pointed to the new site.

I have another question re: finelines.wordpress.com
Can you check on the email address associated with it? If it was an xplornet.com address, or perhaps a mts.net address, it is definitely mine. My biggest problem when I first tried to get on with WordPress was dreadfully slow, and often unreliable dial-up Internet service.
Since those old email addresses are no longer active, I have no way of updating my account info unless you can send the link to (email visible only to moderators and staff)

I understand your need to protect each user’s privacy, but given that there has not been any activity on finelines.wordpress.com and if you find one of my old email addresses linked to it, that would verify my claim.

I appreciate your efforts to help me resolve my conundrum.

For security reasons we cannot reveal any information about the email address connected with a particular site to a third party under any circumstances. All I can tell you is that the username of the account that owns the site is flaminchocolate, and that site was created 11 years ago.

The post appearing on the front page of that site is written in Japanese, so unless you also write in Japanese occasionally it’s unlikely that site belongs to a forgotten account you used to own :)

We would require you to actually email us from the email address connected to the account to verify you own it. Simply knowing, or correctly guessing, the email address for an account is not sufficient verification that you own a particular account.
