changing sidebar width
-
Hi there,
My WordPress theme is Rounded, blog is http://elizabethwolf.wordpress.com/. I like to post poems in the sidebar. Problem is, the sidebar’s narrow width mangles the poems’ line breaks, altering meaning and flow. Is there a way to widen the sidebar? Many thanks for your assistance. Poets everywhere salute you.

If you post poems in the sidebar, nobody can link to them. If you want to, though, you have two choices:
1) switch to a theme with a wider sidebar
or
2) Learn CSS, purchase the paid CSS upgrade, and make the changes to the code. Do NOT do this if you don’t already know CSS; there’s no support for it and you are on your own with it. Use the free Preview to test whether or not your skills are up to it. -
It is possible if you have CSS editing experience and the CSS upgrade, but putting any text in a sidebar where you need to control line breaks and such will be problematic unless none of the lines of your poems exceed the new width. You also have to contend with the fact that different browsers will render text differently, so if a line of text ends near the right side in one browser, the last word on that line might be pushed to the next line in another browser.

The other issue with rounded is that it is a flexible width theme and the sidebar as well as the main content area widths change with the width of a browser window. If you change the width of your browser window back and forth you will see what I mean. The width of both will change as you change the width of your browser window.
