Changing site address, needing to use the same email address.

    Hi, WordPress,

    I am looking to change my site address for now and eventually purchase the domain. Are there any other ways outside of this where I can still use my current email address, despite that it’s already registered through this account? Or should I wait until I purchase the domain and use the site email address for that?

    I’m not sure what you want to do. Your email address is connected to your account, and is changed under account settings:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

    Your site’s address has nothing to do with the email address used for your username account.

    Can you please explain exactly what you are trying to do?

    Yes, thanks for your reply. I am looking to change the site address as well as the username so that it will match the site address. I apologize for the confusion. WordPress is saying that in order for me to do this, (for confirmation reasons?) I would need to use an email address other than the one that I am currently using for word press.

    I wish I could post a screenshot, but there’s nowhere for me to post it here.

    I may just wait until I purchase the domain, use the email from there (ex. (email visible only to moderators and staff)) and see what happens from there. Everything happens for a reason! :D Thanks.

    I am looking to change the site address as well as the username so that it will match the site address.

    To change the free address, you go to My Site ->Domains and click the arrow next to the free address, and click Edit. That will take you through the process of selecting a new free address and will also give you the option to register a matching username while either discarding or also keeping the old address and username. Nowhere in this process is there any reference to an email address, so I’m still not sure what you mean :)

    Where do you see this? I don’t know of ANY setting or page on WordPress.com which would require you to use a different email than the one currently used on your account. The only time you’ll need a different address is if you register a completely new username account.

    In the process I described above this might be the case if you choose to keep the old username, in which case you’ll have two usernames, i.e. two accounts, and you’ll need a unique email address for each account. If you select the option to discard your current username when selecting the new one, your existing account will be switched to the new username, so you’ll still have only one account.

    I do not advise using an email address connected to a custom domain for your WordPress.com account email. Should you ever let your domain expire that email will stop working, and then you’ll have no way to reset your password should you need to do so.
