Changing size of margins using CSS – Hemingway Theme
-
I am inexperienced with CSS and I was told if I wanted to change the sizes of my margins or sidebars I needed to use it. Is there a simple way to do this using CSS that someone that doesn’t work with it can get directions for? I feel with the amount of money I paid for premium there should be a different way to do this. On blogger which was free I could. Any advice would be appreciated. I don’t really have alot of time to learn CSS. Thanks!

Hi there, Julie – I am a volunteer and perhaps I can help.
I have a fair amount of CSS knowledge – can you describe what you would like to change about your sidebar? Maybe I can give you the code you need and you can add it to your stylesheet following this article:

Thank you. If you go to my blog http://www.farminggracedaily.Com the posts and titles I don’t feel look good. Like the margins are not in a good place. I’d like the title on 2 lines.

Hi Julie – I would like to learn more about what you need in terms of changing the look of your site.
What is it about the posts and titles that don’t work for you? Would you like a bigger font size, less space in the sidebar (that’s called padding), or?
As for the title, is this how you want it to appear? http://grab.by/Ounu

I would like both sides of my posts to be even. Like when you write on a Work document and each line is even at each end. So if making the side bar smaller helps that’s ok. The titles of each posts I would like to be one line. Not a couple word theN spilt to go below the top like. So I’m thinking I need my post section actually wider.
I’m fine with my header and the name of my blog area.
Thanks

Here is some CSS code that will make the post area wider while preserving the size of the sidebar:
.site-main { margin: 0 29.5% 0 0; }If you add the above code to your stylesheet following the article in my previous post, your site would look like this: http://grab.by/OuqM
As for both sides of the posts being even, do you mean justifying the text? Here is a thread about that:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-justify-texts?replies=14And then for the post titles, it sounds like you need the font size decreased. Try adding this CSS code to your stylesheet for that:
.entry-title { font-size: 3.8rem; }Let us know if this works for you. :)

Yay Julie I’m so glad I could help you out!
To me, it looks like your Facebook Like Box widget is showing up with your stream just fine. Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing: http://grab.by/OzqS

I’m totally lost on how to connect posts automatically to the menu tabs I have on my page. Is that something you can assist me with? I’ve read the instructions and am confused. I found blogger to be much simpler to do this but love WordPress. Thanks

@farminggracedaily, given that you may have many posts, if you add them to the top menu, you can, and most likely will, end up with more menu items than can be easily navigated by your visitors and perhaps even cause them to click away from your site. On the two sites linked to your username, you have your main page set as your blog page which lists your posts from newest to older, and at the bottom of that page is a button visitors can click to view older posts. Since the majority of visitors are used to navigating blogs, they will typically be able to find all your posts easily.
You can, if you wish, add categories to your top menu, which would allow your visitors to see only posts in a category they are interested in. On both sites you have a good number of categories, so if you wish to add them to your top menu, you may want to think about how to organize them into submenus so that they are easily navigated. Our support page on Custom Menus should get you going on creating a Custom Menu if you wish to add categories to your top menu.
