Changing the Archive counts or monthly counting functionality by other means

I currently have a blog that serves as a reading log for the books I’ve read. Currently each post on the blog is about a specific book that I have read. Therefore, if my Archive says I have 3 posts in July 2009, that means I read 3 books that month. I would like to occasionally write posts that are NOT about the books I have read, but I do not want to lose the ability to see a quick count of how many books I’ve read in any given month. Is there any way I can accomplish this (even if it means changing to wordpress.org)?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You could categorize all the book reviews as Book Reviews and then whatever other kinds of posts you make, just use a different category for those. You can choose to show counts in the categories widget. That won’t show up in Archives, though.

Thank you for the idea, but this wouldn’t show the number of books per month.
