Changing the blog address will delete the old blog entries?

    Will changing the blog address delete the old blog? I started a blog for my daughter and now baby #2 is coming. I want to include baby #2’s name in the blog address. When I change the address from addictedtoavi.wordpress.com to addictedtoaviandamara.wordpress.com will the old entries fall under the new blog address or will changing the name “wipe the slate clean?”

    Also, I am asking this because I am concerned if I permanently delete the old address, all the old entries will be deleted as well.

    The posts would still be there but the links in search results will all be broken. Please read this http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/ so you clearly understand that changing a URL means breaking links and what that impact has on search engine results.

    I would create a new blog URL for baby 2 addictedtoaviandamara.wordpress.com and then create a custom menu on both blogs with custom links in each custom menu that connect them.

    My objective is to consolidate the old into the new & display all that under the new blog address. I am confused why you are suggesting to keep 2 blogs active?

    I would like a one-stop-shop where all the chronological archives of old blog and new blog are consolidated under the new name.

    then buy the redirect upgrade, which will redirect your old posts to the new ones.

    1) I am not concerned about breaking links since this blog is private and does not show up in search engines.

    2) Where can I learn more about purchasing a site redirect upgrade?

    3) Will the site redirect upgrade automatically redirect my subscribers? Or will they have to resubscribe?

    Follow-up:

    I created an experiment blog to test first. Made a few entries with a link to a youtube video, posted some pics on each entry, and subscribed to it myself. Then, I went in and changed the blog address (not the title) to see if:
    1) The youtube link would transfer
    2) The gallery pics/slideshows would transfer
    3) My followers would still get an email notification about new entry without having to resubscribe

    My blog is private therefore I was not concerned with search engine traffic or search engine anything.

    When I changed the blog address the youtube link transfered, the pics/slideshow entries displayed and I received an email when I published a new entry on the new address (without having to resubscribe).

    Is there anything else that I should be aware of –that I DID NOT test for before doing this on my “real” blog?

    I’d say go for it. That’s exactly how it should work. It moves all your content, theme settings, and followers to the new URL and if you choose, you get the old URL as an empty site.

    You can set up the site redirect as timethief and raincoaster mentioned if you’re worried about people landing on the old site and not knowing where to go.
