changing the domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

I have changed my domain name to songbirdcollectibles.com but when I log into the dashboard it still takes me to conservefewelldotcom and I can’t change my email address as it says (email visible only to moderators and staff) is already taken.

I just want everything to be songbirdcollectibles.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

All domains here at WordPress.com are “mapped” to an underlying .wordpress.com URL where your content will still be, even if your domain expires. But only you see that in your Dashboard. Your readers only see the custom domain.

Your domain songbirdcollectibles.com is currently mapped to URL conservefewelldotcom.wordpress.com. If you want to change that underlying URL to something else, you can do so by following these instructions:
    Changing a Blog Address

There is a second WordPress.com user account with the email address you mention. It also has a username that matches your new domain, so I’m thinking you intended to open the new blog under that account, rather than brentfewell. Is that correct? If so, I can move the blog and domain to that user account if you like, just let me know.

Yes, please move it. But only if it doesn’t mess up the wordpress install.

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Looking at this now, things are a bit differently set up now than they were last time.

Your domains conservefewell.com and songbirdcollectibles.com are both mapped to the same WordPress.com blog which is redirecting to a WordPress install at GoDaddy.com.

You don’t need to have mapping to WordPress.com at all for songbirdcollectibles.com. You can just map it directly to your GoDaddy install.

The only thing you’re using your account here at WordPress.com for is the Jetpack plugin connection for conservefewell.org. You also have the domain conservefewell.com itself registered with us. Otherwise, whatever is here at WordPress.com is completely unrelated to your self-hosted WordPress site.

I can go ahead and remove your premium upgrade, and remove and refund the domain mapping for songbirdcollectibles.com if you like. Then, you’ll still have the conservefewell.org Jetpack connection connected to the brentfewell WordPress.com account, and you still have conservefewell.com registered with us.

If you’d like to connect the songbirdcollectibles.com site with the Jetpack plugin to the other account, you can first log out of your brentfewell user account, and log back in to the (email visible only to moderators and staff) WordPress.com account. Then, you can connect Jetpack to that user account.

Does this all make sense? Let me know how you’d like to proceed.

Thank you. If you could please remove the mapping, everything else is taken care of.

  • Ok, it’s removed and refunded. :)

Let me know if you need anything else.
