Changing the domain name to get to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Currently, people access my blog via this address: http://harmonybooksfilmsllc.wordpress.com/

I would like to change it so that people can go to http://harmonybooks.com

Please let me know what other information you need from me to understand what I am trying to do and also please let me know what I need to do to make this happen. I have no problem incurring additional fees if necessary.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there!

If the domain name, harmonybooks.com, is available you can certainly add it to your WordPress.com site!

    Here’s how…

    1. Click the link below:
      https://harmonybooksfilmsllc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
    2. Select Register a New Domain Name.
    3. From there, simply follow the instructions on the page!

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

Thank you very much ThatRobyn and your advice worked perfectly.

However, I was surprised to learn that HarmonyBooks is already registered to a major publisher.

I had a small film company for years with the site http://www.harmonyfilmsllc.com, but changed the name of my company last year to include books since my film making wasn’t as well received as I had hoped.

I was toying with dropping the films all together, but perhaps I am lucky to at least have HarmonyBooksFilmsLLC

I would like to remove “WordPress” from my domain name to make it easier to give people my blog address, but unfortunately I registered it with a company other than WordPress.

I wish I has simply registered my domain name with WordPress since I think it would have been so much easier.

    Any more suggestions?

Again, thank you very much for the help, I should have checked first before asking for help.

    Hey Bill!

My suggestion to you is to map your domain, harmonybooksfilmsllc.com, to your WordPress.com site. I see that you’ve already purchased the domain mapping upgrade for your site, now you just need to change your domain’s name servers. You would take this action with your custom domain’s registrar. If you’re not sure how to contact your registrar, you can find it in your domain’s public contact information:
    http://who.is/whois/harmonybooksfilmsllc.com

    Your name servers should be:
    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

For more information about domain mapping, that a look at this support document:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

    Robyn,

    I haven’t a clue what I did, but I purchased a domain name from WordPress – harmonybooksfilms.com

Mapped it to my blog site and now I seem to be able to access it by just doing a search for harmony booksfilms.com or clicking on a link.

The domain name I purchased from another vendor is still out there, but sometime I’ll cancel it before it renews.

I appreciate all your help and sorry for being such a weak student, but somehow I was able to accomplish what I set out to accomplish and that was with the help you so kindly provided. Thank you

    Hello again!

    I haven’t a clue what I did, but I purchased a domain name from WordPress – harmonybooksfilms.com

    Terrific! That’s fabulous. I’m happy if you’re happy :)

Are you planning on using the domain harmonybooksfilmsllc.com on your WordPress.com site? If not, I can disconnect it now, so it’s not “in the way” of your site.

Let me know, I’m happy to go ahead and do that asap. Thanks!

Robyn, thank you for the offer and at a later date I will take you up on it.

At the moment, I probably have a number of people that should they try to access the blog, would use the old domain name, so I need some time to get them over to the new domain name.

However, I will be sure to call upon you after I have them all switched over.

Thank you for all your help today.
