Changing the font

  • Unknown's avatar

    I want to change the font on my webpage. Aside from the fact I want to change it in different places on the same page, I believe I need to do two things. First I need to paste this in the head of my html document:

    <style>

    @import
    ‘https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Fredericka+the+Great’;
    </style>

    Secondly I need to paste this in the CSS customizer:

    font-family: ‘Fredericka the Great’, cursive;

    Step 2 – no problem. However step 1 – if <head></head> is the head, then I can’t paste anything there. Is that because my head is not editable? If so, how do I make it editable?

    Thanks
    Lou

    Hi Lou, you can choose from the fonts at Customize > Fonts, but we cannot editor or add font declarations or use @import here at WordPress.com.

    Yes you can, using CSS as per countless forum and web discussions and WP’s own happiness engineers!

    @lougrimm, sometimes there is some confusion between self-hosted WordPress installations where you are free to do pretty much anything your heart desires, and sites hosted here at WordPress.com. The differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org (self-hosted).

    You can add custom fonts from outside of WordPress if you are self-hosted running your own installation of WordPress on another web host. See our Custom CSS support page, scroll down to Frequently Asked Questions and then down toward the bottom and you will find this:

    Can I use CSS rules like @import and @font-face?
    WordPress.com currently does not allow loading outside files via CSS.

    Most of the discussions you will find out on the web are about self-hosted WordPress installation unless they specifically mention that it is applicable to WordPress.com.
