Changing the font and alignment of the header text?
-
Hi All,
Is there any way of changing the font and positioning of the text in my header without buying the CSS upgrade? I have the TypeKit thing but it doesn’t seem to actually do anything. I’d be happy to pay for the CSS upgrade, but I’ve been put off by the warnings of how complicated it is – surely changing the font can’t be that hard??
Frustrating as I have two or three small things about the appearance of my theme which I am sure would be simple to fix if I knew how but I have no idea how to do it. It niggles at me every time I visit the page. Should I just get the upgrade and be done with it?

Re: TypeKit. There has been no official announcement about this upcoming new feature from wordpress.com http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/12/22/typekit-comes-to-wordpress-com/

As wordpress.com have not made any official announcement about TypeKit we lack answers to questions being posed.
Change font in header image
If you have a theme with the customizable header option, you can change your customizable header on your wordpress.COM at any time, and use a free font or one you purchase of your own choice to place your blog title and tagline on the image.Changing font style and title on posts or pages either post by post or page by page
We wordpress.com users can change font styles and colors on our posts and pages, a post and a page at a time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/Changing font style and color throughout the whole blog
We cannot access the templates in our wordpress.com blogs and edit the underlying php and html. However, if we choose to pay for a CSS upgrade and undertake CSS editing then we can change font styles and colors throughout the entire blog.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/However, this upgrade is NOT recommended to those who do not have CSS editing experience as there is no Staff support, and only 2 volunteers choose to expend time & energy on helping others learn CSS editing. Here’s the link to an excellent tutorial

Hi there,
Thanks very much for this. Re your first paragraph though: how do I actually do that – ie. use a free or purchased font to place the blog title etc on the image? Sorry to be dull but I can’t figure it out. On the custom header page it only gives these options:
“You can change the text color or upload and crop a new image.”
I’ve also tried to put text on the image before I upload it, just using fonts from Microsoft Word, but I can’t seem to manage that either. Is that what you meant? If so how do you do it?
Thanks again ! (and sorry..)
Christy

You would have to get the font itself from somewhere else online. There are many fonts available for downloading.

Ok I can download one. But my real question is, how do I change the text in my header image into the font that I choose? Do I need to paste the text on to the image before I upload it, and if so, how do you do that?
-
You edit the image in an image editing application.
And please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your username to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.
