Changing the Media URL
-
I originally created my website under a different name with a different URL and I’ve been able to change the main site URL fine, but all of the media I upload still shows the original blog name (even though I’ve changed/deleted all other things associated with it). The site started as a personal blog and has since become a more professional zine so I’d really like to keep everything under the new name. Is there a way to change it so that the media links show the current name/link?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hi there!
Can you let us know both site URLs and which one is the original? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.
Thanks!

Hi!
Sure! The current site URL is: https://forpageandscreen.home.blog
The one that shows up when I link media files is: https://sarahedmondswrittenworldshome.files.wordpress.com
(I believe the original main site URL used to be sarahedmondswrittenworlds.wordpress.com, but I haven’t used it in so long I’m not 100% sure).I apologize if I’m missing something very obvious, I’m not the best with this kind of stuff. Thank you so much for any and all help, though!

Oh, I see.
So the home.blog address is sort of like a free custom subdomain, but the base address for the site and its files will still be https://sarahedmondswrittenworldshome.files.wordpress.com
You can test this by going to
https://forpageandscreen.home.blog/wp-adminIt will redirect to the WordPress.com address.
Maybe we can help in another way though. How are you going about sharing the media, and would you consider linking to an attachment page instead?

Oh, thanks for the info! I didn’t see the part before on the support page about the address being unable to be changed, sorry about that.
I was essentially adding the media address as a hyperlink in the text of a post. It’s for an online literary magazine, so we link to PDFs of our authors’ stories for viewers to read/download (the links work a little better visually than the “File” block for how we want to present each issue and I was trying to avoid adding the 15–20 new pages needed to house each story as its own page every time we release an issue). We’ll find a way to make it work, though!
Thank you again so much for all of your help and for the information!
