Changing the name of my blog
-
Hi. I want to change the name of my blog. I’ve read and watched everything, and I think I’ve got it, but there’s one tiny part I’m unsure of. So, please, bear with me while I check the following with you:
I want to change my blog from a.wordpress.com to b.wordpress.com.
I want to call my new blog b.wordpress.com.
I want to buy a redirect that will point people typing a.wordpress.com into a browser to b.wordpress.com.
AND: I want all the content I have spent 2 years creating simply to now reside in the new blog, b.wordpress.com. So that, yesterday, the name and header was a…. and tomorrow it’s b…, and the URL has changed, but all the content remains. Here’s what I plan to do:
Change the name using General in Settings
Change the blog name per your guide.
But the redirect.
Go live.
Write and publish an explanation.
Move ahead. The continuity of content must remain. I don’t need 2 blogs. I want to keep everything live to the world.
Many thanks.
Alan.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That sounds right on. When changing the address, please be sure NOT to check the last checkbox (about discarding the old name: https://cloudup.com/cFLf5i45EpA ).
If you have any questions or anything comes up, please do reply to this thread.
Cheers!

Thanks. Just caught up with the response and the rating request, which I’ll complete.
Just to do the belt-and-braces check: if I follow the process I describe above, all my content stays intact, but there’s a new name at the top of the screen, a new URL, and (once bought) a re-direct? In other words, I don’t lose my content…
As you can see, am slightly anxious that it works as advertised!
Cheers.

Hope you had a great weekend!
That’s correct. Changing the blog’s address literally only changes the URL (then you can change the title that shows at the top of the screen via Settings->General). Everything else is maintained!
Cheers!
