Hi there,
If you want to change your site’s title, follow these instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/general-settings/#changing-your-site-title-and-taglineIf you want to change its address (e.g. daisymae2017.wordpress.com) follow this guide:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/Let me know if you need more help.

But how do I know when I change the sites address( for example from daisymae2017 to something else) if it’s free. I want the free plan. I know what I want to rename my site. I just need to know if it will stay free. How do I know if it’s free when changing my site address?
-
You’ll still be on the free plan. Changing the address of a site on the free plan will result in a new site still on the free plan.
-
Great. Now another question, what does it mean when it says do you want to connect this to your other site? How’s that done? Should I do that? I’m a little confused. Especially deciding on what theme to use for my portfolio site. Any suggestions?
-
Can I change my site address to Crystal2017.WordPress.com and it still be free? Can I add wp-admin to my WordPress address for free? This also goes for my other site that I’m thinking about starting.

Where do you see that prompt?
Especially deciding on what theme to use for my portfolio site. Any suggestions?
It depends on your personal taste :) Here are all the themes specifically designed for portfolios:

Yes, you can. This address is not taken and it’s free!
Can I add wp-admin to my WordPress address for free?
You can access the wp-admin (aka old dashboard) by adding /wp-admin/ to the end of your address. For example: http://daisymae2017.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
This also goes for my other site that I’m thinking about starting.
Yes, wp-admin is available for all WordPress.com sites (free and premium ones) and you can create as many free sites as you want. There’s no limit :)
-
I’m not premium I’m on the free site, can I still add wp-admin for free on the plan I’m on?
-
How do I change my site address but add the wp-admin to the address and still keep all my posts from daisymae2017.wordpress.com? I’m confused. It says it disables my other address. Does that mean I have to start completely over? Please Help me change my sites address but keeping all posts and pictures. I’m confused. What should I do? I thought I could change the sites address for and add wp-admin for. Right? What does it mean matching username? Asks 3 questions then asks do you want to discard daisymae2017wordpress.com? I don’t want to disable the site address just change the site address. What should I do?

wp-admin is available for all WordPress.com sites even the ones that are on the free plan (like yours).
Don’t get confused :) Here’s what you need to do:
1. Go to http://daisymae2017.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs
2. Move your mouse over the site daisymae2017.wordpress.com and click the Change Blog Address option
3. On the new screen type the new address (twice), select No to the “Matching Username?”, and leave the “Discard Current Address?” checkbox unchecked.
4. Click the “Review my changes” button and on the next screen the “Continue” button.
By following these instructions you’ll end up with a new address that has all of your content. The old address (daisymae2017.wordpress.com) won’t be deleted and it’ll have all the contents as well.
Hope this info helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

How would I type that out? I want my name to have wp-admin but to get to my dashboard can I just wp-admin or does it have to have indexphp?page=my-blogs added too?
Thank You, Crystal Stewart

When I go to change my site name to crystal2017.wordpress.com, can I add wp-admin only to my site or do I also have to add index.php?page=my-blogs? For example, my site name would like something like this crystal2017.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ or do I have to add index.php?=my-blogs? The other information was useful and Thanks for it. Please answer these questions for me.

It’s a link. Just click it :)
I want my name to have wp-admin but to get to my dashboard can I just wp-admin or does it have to have indexphp?page=my-blogs added too?
If you add wp-admin at the end of your site’s address you get to the Dashboard. The /wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs is a direct link to your sites so you can start with the address changing procedure.
When changing your address type only crystal2017.wordpress.com.

Can I use capital letters and spaces in my new site name? For Example, Crystal Stewart2017.wordpress.com. How should it be typed out?
-
Spaces and capital letters are not allowed in any Internet address. Your domain should be: crystalstewart2017.wordpress.com
-
Ok no capital letters. To keep daisymae2017 open, I put the new username in twice then it gives me 3 choices at where it says Matching Username then a box do I want to disable my old username permanently and leave it unchecked-right? What do I do? Since I’m changing the name only, will I be able to use this name at another time?
-
Hi @daisymae2017, you will not be able to use them at another time because it is permanent. Since you don’t sound positive about this, please don’t disable them.
We have screenshots and more tips in the article @fstat linked earlier:

I read the link again and am I to understand that when I check the box under Matching Username it should be create a new user to match the new blog name?
-
I have to purchase an upgrade to redirect my followers and whoever else is interested in my blog? What is Site Redirect and Domain Upgrade? I didn’t think I needed to purchase anything that it would stay free? Do I need to upgrade? I just want to change my site address and stay on the free plan.
-
@daisymae2017 you might like the upgraded plans; they come with direct support from staff, including chat.
Yes, create matching username does just that.
You do not have to buy anything though. You can change your URL using the instructions given. You may just lose some traffic from links / seo if you don’t redirect. If you care about keeping traffic but definitely don’t want to pay for anything, I’d recommend leaving the site URL as is, and just altering the title.
