changing the url – address- in a post

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I am on shaky ground here as it is perhaps more than a year back when I set up my site.

    Long Question:
I have the feeling there was, somewhere, an option to set the way posts were titled in the url.

I thought I set it for the directory section to be just the post title or slug; eg https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/my-new-post/

In fact, maybe I dreamt it but I was pretty sure that was how they appeared in the beginning. But that aspect is not something I pay much attention to.

Until the other day when i tried to send a link to a third party.
It failed as the system was looking for https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/date/ my-new-post/

There are several articles on line detailing how to do this.
The goto seems to be a plugin, but we both know that aint gunna fly here.
The other method detailed going into the dash, settings then links to a variety of options.
But my settings does not have that?

So, the short question, how can I change it so the date of each post is not shown please?

    A quick second question.
How do I remove the revisions please?
I assume they take up space, once published I don’t need them.

    Cheers
    P

Hi there, unless your WordPress.com website has a Business plan or eCommerce plan with plugins installed where you can change the permalink structure, all WordPress.com websites use the mysite.wordpress.com/year/month/day/my-post-title structure.

    https://wordpress.com/support/permalinks-and-slugs/

Revisions do not count against your storage space, only uploaded media does.

Hope that helps, but post back here if you have other questions.

    Hi @146386q,

My question to you: where from did you copy a page URL without a date?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks JustJennifer, that covers the questions succinctly and very quickly~
Maybe it was someone else’s site I was working on – too many, too far back to remember.
    Have a good one~

Hello maksimurasov, sorry I don’t quite understand your question.
Isn’t what you are asking me what I asked in the forum?
    If yes, Justjennifer answered it.
If no, please clarify so we can go forward.

Hi, sorry that my question was not clear.

Until the other day when i tried to send a link to a third party.
It failed as the system was looking for https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/date/ my-new-post/

You have told that you sent a link to someone, but where from did you take that link? Maybe it is a bug somewhere that has to be fixed.

P.S. A self-hosted websites that use WordPress.org software can modify permalink structure- that is where you may have seen that.

Hello again maksimurasov, if i understand you correctly, you are asking me where I found the link that I sent to someone?
    The one that failed. Yes?

If that is what you mean, I did not “find” it.
I created based on my understanding of what I thought the link should be.

However, as justjennifer has pointed out the link can not be edited the way i wanted.

I don’t think this is your question, but if you mean, how did I find any link, I simply copied it from the browser window.

Sorry, I think that is the best I can do.
My issue has been solved, if it doesn’t solve yours, maybe try raising a help ticket for your own specific problem.
Justjennifer is always on the money!

    Cheers

if i understand you correctly, you are asking me where I found the link that I sent to someone?
    The one that failed. Yes?

Yes, exactly. That is what I thought might be a reason, so good that we have clarified all these things up :)

    Ahhh, ding ding!
    Sorry maksimurasov, my mistake.
I thought you were also asking a similar question.
Now I see you were trying to offer a solution to my question.
Again, sorry, I was too busy to read it closely.

Yes, you are correct, i do sometimes work with people who have a .org or premium .com account. So it was my memory at fault~
    Thanks for your help!
Oh, love your handle by the way, esp the urasov!

Can I ask you what does urasov mean for you? I wonder if it has some meaning in other languages?
