Changing the URL of the log.

I changed the URL of my blog but it doesn’t redirect. There is a screen when people click on the old URL and it says that my old blog has been deleted. All of the content is the same; the only difference is that the URL is the same, which is what I expected to happen. What I DIDN’T expect to happen is this: All of my old content is listed on the search engines (such as Google and Yahoo), but it lists my content under the old URL. So the result is that when people click on the links on the search engines, all they get is a screen that says that the blog has been deleted. It took me a long time to build a readership, and now it’s all gone. I must have done something wrong, obviously.

What is the old URL? What is the new URL? Did you export the contents from the first blog to the second?

There is no redirect in place, so yes, all the google juice will go to your old blog, not your new one. You did nothing wrong. This is what happens when you change URLs without a redirect.

As far as the question of whether I exported the contents from the first blog to the second, I don’t understand what is meant by “exported”. I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to technology. But if what you mean by that is whether the content is the SAME as the old content, then the answer is YES. Everything is identical to the content of the old URL, except for the header. Identical to a tee.

Will Google eventually be deleting the listings that direct people to my old URL? If so, how long does something like that generally take? Will my new URL eventually be showing up on Google listings in its place, and if so, approximately how long would that take.

Incidentally, thank you very much for replying to my inquiry. I never expected a reply so quickly!!!! Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Glen
