Changing the width of my page
-
Is there a way to make my layout wider so that there isn’t a blank space next to my page?
I hope that is descriptive enough, I’ve been searching but don’t know how to word the question I guess…

Do you have the required custom design upgrade?

I don’t have the upgrade. But I was using this theme previously and it loaded on my screen full width; I changed themes this week and then back to twenty fourteen and now it’s not full screen. My browser settings haven’t changed, so I thought maybe I had changed settings before and forgotten how to do it.
Is this a feature for the custom upgrade only then?

Maybe you are referring to page templates. From the detailed theme description page at http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen/

Tailor content pages to your needs with two special page templates: a full-width page to remove the right sidebar, http://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/default-page-templates/full-width-page-template/ -
No I don’t think that’s it. I’m looking more for the whole page to be wider, so that people don’t see the black area on the sides of my site when they go to my page. As it is, I need to zoom in to 150% view on my browser to have it fill my screen.

Hi pharbormarina – just wanted to confirm that apart from applying the full-width page template, there isn’t a way to increase the overall width of the Twenty Fourteen layout without Custom Design. Just let me know if you have any other questions.

@pharbormarina,
No I don’t think that’s it. I’m looking more for the whole page to be wider, so that people don’t see the black area on the sides of my site when they go to my page. As it is, I need to zoom in to 150% view on my browser to have it fill my screen.
I had to zoom out three times, using FF zoom, to see the black space on the right hand side of your template. In other words, I have to go to great lengths for your pages not to fill the screen. I’m using a desktop PC, 12″ wide monitor screen, resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels.

Thanks for that musicdoc, I’m not sure what may have changed on my computer to make it different for me from last week, but I will look into it.
Thanks for the other replies as well.
