Changing theme
-
I have taken on managing a website for our organisation. I have been asked to look at changing the theme. Can I build replacement pages in draft without losing the theme for the existing pages – ie until I’m happy with the result?
-
The site can only have 1 theme for the whole site, but changing the theme is both quick and safe. The most you’ll need to fix after is re-organize widgets and menus.
-
before changing the theme, is there anything that should be backed up i.e. images, documents, content?
-
BUT BUT BUT… how do make the change to try it out without instantly replacing the existing theme? I don’t see how to do it…..
-
@kimpurvis You can only try the older themes without activating them by clicking on the three dots next to the theme’s name and choosing the option Try&Customize.
The newer themes don’t have that option as they are built to work with our new Block Editor and the site’s layout will depend entirely on how you set it up. Those themes will add a sample homepage to your site (like the one you see in the demo) that you can replace with your own content.
