Changing Themes

    Hello,
I would like to change the current current of my blog, I LOVE so many of the new WP themes and after using the same theme for a number of years, I’m ready to revamp my site. When I preview a new theme, my blog looks great, however when I active a new theme, ANY theme, I encounter a number of problems, like: my blog appearing on only half the page, images resize, posts are unreadable, some links are no longer clickable..etc….*sigh*

I’m wondering if these problems are due to the custom CSS I’m currently using? If so, do I need to restore my current theme back to its default style before I can switch to a new theme?

    Thank you

We cannot offer help without the URL of the blog in question, starting with http. And yes, if you’re using custom CSS you’ll need to remove it before a new theme will work properly.

sorry, here is the link: http://dirtywhorelebrity.com/ –> it’s a celebrity gossip site.

And thank you, as I suspected, I must restore the currents theme’s default settings. But I should probably save my current custom CSS in the event that after restoring the default settings it does not fix the issue I’m having with using a new theme…(?)

CSS is theme specific. If you have custom CSS and later change themes, you need to delete whatever CSS you have in the Editor, otherwise, you’ll get undesired results.

To ‘reset’ a theme, you need to delete the CSS in the Editor, make sure the “add to existing CSS” radio button is checked, then save. Things should go back to normal.

Changing themes at WordPress.com takes moments. No data is every lost. Provided you don’t have any HUGE images that do not fit into the maximum displayed image width for posts and pages in the new theme you will not have to edit them. Provided the images in sidebar widgets do not exceed the sidebar width in the new theme then you won’t have to edit them either.

We go here > Appearance > Themes
We type in the name of the theme we want to change to. We click “activate” when the thumbnail depicting the new theme appears. After we click the theme is changed and what we see displayed in the sidebar of the new theme is a default display – not actual widgets.

All widgets that were in use in the former theme migrate automatically to the Inactive Widgets box. So all we do is do here > Appearance > Widgets and replace them in sidebar and/or widget footer areas that we wish them to appear in on the new theme.
