Changing Themes
-
Hi everyone,
I’m new at WordPress and I want to change my theme. I currently use the ones being offered but I stumbled into a site that offers free WP themes. How do I change it? Does this mean I have to upgrade or something? I merely want to have more variety in my theme.

You cannot use the themes being offered because they are for use on different software at wordpress.org. Here we can only use themes that have been adapted to run on wordpress.com MU (multiuser) blogging platforms.

If you have css editing experience then you can purchase an upgrade and edit the appearance but not the functionality of a theme. There are some available skins already ported to run on wordpress.com. But there is no staff support for learning css and, although some professionals drop in from time to time after work to lend a hand, we do not know when they will be around or not.

If you would like to link your wordpress.com username to your blog it’s easy to do. -> Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile
scroll down and look in the right hand column
find “website” and type in your wordpress.com blog url which I have provided above (N.B. there is no www)
click “update Profile” to save -
If you prefer you can hire web host and download a free template for a wordpress.org blog. Then you can import the contents of your wordpress.com blog into the new wordpress.org blog.
Here are 2 posts that highlight the differences between the two.
