Changing Themes

When I preview a theme I would like to try there is obvious formatting issues between the two themes. Is there a way to to make the necessary adjustments/formatting from old to new theme before activating it?

There is a preview function but no there isn’t exactly what you describe. However, I recommend that every blog has a test blog set up as a mirror blog with the blog visibility set to “private” and use it for exactly this purpose. Scroll down to “Creating a mirror blog“.

Thank you for the above suggestion (now, why didn’t I think of that?) and the step-by-step instructions. I’ve now got the basis of a mirror site to play around with – changing themes, etc.

Hooray! I love my test blogs and I’m banking on you loving yours too. :)

Thanks timethief. I tried your advice and set up a private test blog with the new theme. Now that I’ve tweaked it and like the look, how do I convert my active public blog into this new one?

Do I just export the xml file of the test blog and then import it into my current blog? Your tutorial only mentioned how to set up a mirror/test site? Unless I’m missing something here. Thanks …Mike

You cannot import a theme into a WordPress.com blog but you can activate the theme in your main blog here > Appearance > Themes

gotcha — so when i activate the new theme, I just have to make the formatting changes i did on the test site. Then it’s probably best to set it to private status until all the formatting is completed. Thanks again!

That’s correct. You’re welcome and blog on! :)
