Hi there,
There is no such thing as having a free hosted WordPress.com blog with no theme at all on it. There is no such thing as a reset button to click. The default theme is Twenty Twelve.Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
type in the name of the theme you want to use
click the “activate” link when it appearsAfter you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Nothing Found
re: front page error message
Deleting content and/or changing themes will not eliminate that error message. By default your front page displays all your posts and you have not published any posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of your blog appeared because you deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ -
Hi,
I’m totally new to WP and I just wonder if there is a possibility to play around the layout of Twenty Eleven. i.e I need to minimize the white space between Headings and the first post.

Provided you have CSS editing skills and are prepared to purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade and do the CSS editing required your can customize any WordPress.com theme found here in your dashboard > Appearance > themes and showcased here >
http://theme.wordpress.com/

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questionsOn one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.
On the other hand, one can edit a WordPress.org theme free of charge. That’s why I suggest you read this comparison > WordPress.com and WordPress.org: The Differences http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thanks a million for the reply.
I have pruchased the custom design upgrade only two days ago and since then I did’t leave the screen of my laptop to educate myself on CSS editing. I think I’ve done a bit good job so far. however, I’m stuck on how to minimize or delete the white space above the headers in all pages. It just doesn’t look good. appreciate if you can have a look and advice if you know how. I’ve used margin and padding but in vein.
regards
