changing themes
-
I was wondering how to change my theme. I currently have the Sela theme, and I would like to possibly change it to an Activello theme. Does the Activello theme allow one to have categories for a blog, instead of all blog posts being posted on one endless page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All themes allow you to set up categories so that you can split your posts into different sections. However the default behaviour of all post homepages is to show every single post regardless of which category it is in.
You can always set up a static home page and then point readers to your categories if you like.
You can also preview how your site would look in the new theme before applying any changes.

Ok, another question: I went to My Site, themes, tried to find Activello to preview, (which is supposed to be a free Simple Multipurpose Blog Theme) and cannot find it. Any thoughts?

At WordPress.com you can only use the themes made available in the theme showcase.
There are lots of other themes out there but they’re intended for WordPress.org sites where you have to pay for your own hosting and manage all the technical details yourself. Here’s some info on the differences between the two. And here’s some more info on themes.

What design choices and features did you like about Activello? If you let me know what attracted you to it I can help you find similar themes that are available to use here.

Right now on my current Sela theme, everything posted just goes on one page. I would like to have a theme that allows me to categorize various posts: recipes, crafts, home decor, devotions each into their own category or page. Thank you for trying to help.

You can do that on any theme you like if you set up categories for each of those different post topics. When you categorise a post it will automatically show up on an automatically generated category page.
Once that’s done you can either use something like the categories widget in your sidebar or a custom menu to display them in your site navigation whichever way you want.
All your posts will still show up on your homepage (it’s the default behaviour) but you can always switch to a static homepage if that’s not something you want.

It’s no problem. It’s a lot to take in at first but once you get to grips with it you’ll find that most things make sense.
The support pages are the best place to go if you want to find answers about a specific feature and there are quick start guides for blogs and more traditional website set-ups if you’re brand new and need a helping hand.
