Changing themes

Need to know how to change themes / template without losing what is there. We need tabs to have drop down menus. The theme / template we have, 21 something, does not allow drop downs. Found a theme that did, tried it out, didn’t work as expected but could not revert site to the current theme / template. There must be an easy way to try out a new theme / template and revert to original if it doesn’t work as expected.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

The theme / template we have, 21 something, does not allow drop downs.

The site https://ffrfmaine.org/ appears to have the Twenty Fourteen theme activated. Twenty Fourteen does allow drop-down menu items in the menu.

With the classic menu (aka default pages menu) displayed on Twenty Fourteen, child pages will display in a drop-down menu below their parent. How to create parent and child relationships between pages (a page hierarchy) is explained in the Page Options support page.

If you display a custom menu, then the page hierarchy established by the parent-child relationships between pages will be ignored. However, drop-down menus can be manually created by assigning some menu items as sub-menu items as described in the Changing the Order & Creating Sub-Menus section of the Custom Menus support page.

There must be an easy way to try out a new theme / template and revert to original if it doesn’t work as expected.

Switching from one theme to another is as easy as activating another theme, as described in the Themes support page, but there may be unwanted effects. Widgets and custom menus may have to be reassigned, and CSS customization may be lost. See the Switch Themes section of the Themes support page.

    Hi, Pedro.

I want to put blackletterhead theme, but it’s not possible to upload it.
    why?

Uploading a third-party or custom theme is possible only on self-hosted sites using the WordPress.org software. This means that you cannot upload any themes to your WordPress.com site. Learn more.

Instead of uploading a theme, try checking out the current theme collection to see if there’s an option there that will work well for you.

Black-Letterhead is a retired WordPress.com theme. Retired themes may only be activated on sites that were created before the theme was retired. See the topic Can I Use “Retired” Themes?
