Im trying to change my theme but I don’t really see any I like. Is there a way to create your own theme or is that only for paid wordpress accounts
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there, I’m sorry that you couldn’t find a theme that matches your requirement. Yes, creating your own theme is possible but in order to upload it to your WordPress.com site, you need an upgraded Business Plan.

Thank you
I don’t really like my theme but the theme Im using doesn’t look the same as the live demo. How do I get the same look
-
You’re welcome.
I can see that you have customized a bit on your site like setting a different background image. Any customization made to the theme will make it differ from the live demo.
If you wish to restore the theme to its default state, under Customizer –> Colors & Backgrounds and Fonts options, you’re able to set them to default.

I uploaded screenshot in my media library of what I mean. My theme looks nothing like the live demo

I’m sorry but I have no access to your media library. Only Staff will have the access to do that.
Maybe you could use this service to share your screenshot here: https://snag.gy/

Hi there,
Your site doesn’t look like a demo because you has a static front page set while the demo site shows the latest posts, you have a custom background set which the demo site does not, you have sidebar widgets added which the demo site does not, and you have custom fonts active on your site.
To have your site look like the theme demo, go to the Customizer and remove your background image and widgets, and set the font to the default option for that theme.
And you can control whether the front page should show latest posts or your About page under the Homepage settings tab in the Customizer.

Ok. I also wanna create a portfolio showing my writings, separately from my blog posts. I want it displayed as like a gallery or slideshow. Is that possible to do with this particular theme which I changed again
-
You can use the Portfolio feature in any theme. Your theme does not have a special type of page template or a slider just to showcase portfolios, but we have a portfolio shortcode you can use to show portfolio projects on a regular page in this case.
You can find instructions how to set that up here:

How do I know if the theme Im using is retired because for some reason I seem to always be choosing retired themes. Ive gone through two already. Im just asking and wanna know for sure so I can avoid retired themes. The two that I used before were retired and still showed up in the showcase

Hi there,
Retired themes are shown if you had previously activated them on your site. To make sure you only see current themes browse them from this library:
