changing themes and css customization
-
hello, I am right now working with the theme “imbalance2”, I have paid with and worked successfully with the css customization on this theme, but I am thinking of changing to another theme as I am not yet satisfied with the appeance (or rather, I am very pleased with its appearance, but it doesnt suit the purpose of the blog/pseudo website).
My question is, if I go ahead and change themes (i’m thinking of “twenty eleven”) will the css customization that I have paid for come along for the ride?
Also, what will happen to the css code that I have already put in for the imbalance theme when I apply the changeover? will I need to undo the css customization? And if so, will that be better to do before or after?
thanks very much,
melissaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

My question is, if I go ahead and change themes (i’m thinking of “twenty eleven”) will the css customization that I have paid for come along for the ride?
Yes, it will, and you will have to strip it out, because CSS is theme-specific. When you change themes the CSS operators still operate, but the way you’d fine-tuned things for your old theme won’t work on your new one.
You can just empty out the CSS updates box and click “Add to original CSS” and that reverts back to the standard theme. Then you can use the upgrade to make changes as you like in time.

thank you so much for your quick reply!
Another question: the changes I made thru the “custom design” tab under “appearance” in my dash board? should I eliminate those as well before switching?
Can I ask here what the easiest way to switch would be? any tips?

Im sorry, raincoaster, I don’t understand which of my questions you are not sure about? The Theme is too new? or my blog is too new? and that is a problem? Im confused!
-
The customization feature is too new. I don’t know anyone who’s used it and then changed themes.
-
ah! that’s clear enough. Well, Im currently making a backup on the “twenty eleven” theme (without the custom upgrade) and then I’ll take the plunge.
if all goes well, and the topic isnot closed by then, I will let you know what happens!
thanks again! -
Raincoaster’s reply is outdated. When you switch to a different theme, you simply start making CSS changes: all the changes you had made while using the previous theme are now automatically removed.
-
oh that is excellent news, Justpi! So that goes for the changes that I made thru the “custom design” tab under “appearance” in my dash board, as I mentioned above?

hmm, I thought all was resolved, but I am noticing that my menu is now stuck. There are elements showing up on the bar that were on the secondary menu of the previous theme. I have deleted completely that secondary menu, yet one of the elements strangely enough continues to want to be visualized. (“fare rete” is the renegade element)
Im not sure this issue is css as I did not do anything particular to the menu.
-
You had created and activated two custom menus. When you change theme, these don’t remain active: the new theme displays its regular top menu (= links to all your published pages). You need to go to Appearance > Menus and set your custom menu as the primary menu of the new theme.
-
yes, I did this, and I eliminated the secondary custom menu completely. On my present single and only primary menu I have not got a voice for “fare rete” but this tab is insisting to be visualised.
I cant understand why! -
A custom menu displays only what you tell it to display. Go to Appearance > Menus and click “Manage Locations”. You should see a bar that says “Theme Location” and “Assigned Menu”. What does it say in the pulldown below “Assigned Menu”?
-
I see “select a menu”
so I have just selected “menu principale” (which is the name of the menu I have) and I have just saved the changes….
and ….drum roll! you have done it!
thank you!!! very much!
