Changing Themes is a nightmare

  I have a site at https://shortstoriesforall.com/ . I am on the creator plan. Have a bit of development experience and once in a while try to change the theme. To be honest, changing themes is a nightmarish experience. Ideally, I would want my content to display on the theme I choose and if and only if I am satisfied, then I should activate it to make the switch. This does not seem to be happening. I am asked to activate it and then customize, which does not make sense. Moreover, the ‘Design your own’ option starts by automatically activating itself! The themes I selected may not be fully integrated, or maybe there are options I am missing out. The Theme selection wizard needs a lot of attention in my opinion. Have tried to change the theme twice and both times had to restore the previous backup – thanks to Jetpack for having my back.
