Changing themes mid-blog
-
I was wondering what happens if you decide to change your theme after you already have your blog up & running for a while? Does your content get saved & switched over to the new theme? I know the widgets go into the unused section & can get moved again to a sidebar, but I’m more concerned about what happens to my written content & my About section, photos, etc? Any help is greatly appreciated. http://www.antiqueshopgirl.wordpress.com
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All your posts/pages/tags/categories/etc. are maintained but, as you already mentioned, some of your widgets might move to the inactive section depending on how many widget areas the new theme has compared to the old one.
If you have any custom CSS applied then it’s very unlikely it will work the same for a different theme so it’s advised that you remove it (temporarily at least) when switching.
You might find that some other things are slightly different depending on the features of each theme but if you go to Appearance > Themes from your main dashboard you can do a full site preview in the customiser.Jjust make sure to click preview on the theme you want to test instead of activate.

No problem, if you are looking at new themes be sure to check out the theme showcase where you can filter what is available by lots of different styles and features to find the ones that will best suit your needs.

One more question – if I look at the various themes in my Appearance section & do the preview, will it show what my current site might look like or just a generic preview? I have looked at the showcase & have a few in mind I’d like to try & see which looks best. Thanks again!

You can preview your own site from the customizer as I described, or you can view a test site by clicking the Live Demo link when you’re on the theme showcase.
