  • I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. However, it sounds like you are working with a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we really can’t help with.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/

If you are having trouble with a WordPress.com site, I would be happy to help.

Not true! Have a look at the site i’m working on. “store.itmustbegac.com” and i’m following the tutorial from wpSculptor How to create an Ecommerce Website with WordPress” This i couldn’t do with rogermoser.wordpress.com. I hope you can help me because i am at my wit’s end! thank you

  • I’m afraid http://store.itmustbegac.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org site. It is not a WordPress.com site.

now my confusion is complete! I followed step by step the tutorial from w.Sculptor’s “How to create an e-commerce Website beginning with Hostgator where i created a sub-domain and then by using Quickinstall and everything worked fine until I could start and follow the tutorial. Almost same version (sculptor uses an earlier one from 2014). I cannot see the difference. I login as romo with PW WpresS_2558 and you mean that this is the WordPress.org site? How in God’s name do i get into the WordPress.com site?

  • All of these are things that are only available on self-hosted WordPRess.org sites. Hostgator is a webhost, which WordPress.com sites do not need. You can’t create subdomains on WordPress.com and you don’t install anything. Woocommerce is a plugin, plugins are only usable on self-hosted sites.

So if what you want to do is use the info in that tutorial, then getting into a WordPress.com site is not going to help you any I’m afraid.

Thank you! I read a lot about the difference between WP.org and WP.com and I have now a better idea. However, one last question i have! Yesterday i have updated WP.com to premium and if i want to profit from this service is it wise to rather stick to WP.com then WP.org when I create an e-commerce website?

  • That is a decision you will have to make for yourself. There are advantages and disadvantages to each platform.

But generally, there are more ecommerce options with a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

hi, i wanted to start a new website at wordpress.com using an existing domain name from our company. When i wanted to create a new website i was asked which option i want. But only recently i have upgraded my wordpress.com to premium and i don’t know how to avoid upgrading again to premium and pay again?

  • If you create a new site and need the premium features, you would need to purchase WordPress.com Premium for the new site as well. WordPress.com upgrades only apply to a single site at a time.

If you do not need all of the features of WordPress.com Premium for this new site, you can just purchase Domain Mapping so that you can use your company’s domain name.
